Pakistan has rejected India’s position on Kashmir at the United Nations Security Council, saying the dispute remains unresolved and should be settled under UN resolutions.

Pakistan’s Counsellor to the United Nations, Saima Saleem, told the UN Security Council on Wednesday that Kashmir is not India’s internal matter and cannot be treated as its integral part. She said the dispute remains on the United Nations agenda and requires a peaceful settlement under relevant Security Council resolutions.

Saleem said India had taken the Kashmir issue to the United Nations in the past but now ignores the Security Council resolutions related to the dispute. She argued that the international community still recognises Kashmir as an unresolved issue.

She highlighted what Pakistan describes as differences between Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). She alleged that authorities in IIOJK restrict movement, detain people and violate human rights.

Pakistan Raises Security and Water Concerns

Saleem reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. She urged the international community to pursue a peaceful solution under international commitments.

The Pakistani diplomat also raised regional security concerns. She accused India of supporting terrorism-related activities. She referred to the Kulbhushan Jadhav case while presenting Pakistan’s allegations.

Saleem criticised India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty. She said no country should use water as political or military pressure. She urged all parties to respect international agreements.

She also voiced concern over rising religious tensions in India. She alleged that extremist ideologies have fuelled Islamophobia and increased pressure on religious minorities.

Pakistan Vows to Continue Diplomatic Efforts

Earlier, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi urged the United States to encourage India to address human rights concerns in Kashmir. He also called for the release of political prisoners.

During the weekly Foreign Office briefing, Andrabi remembered Kashmiri leaders Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone, who died in 1990 and 2002, respectively.

He also honoured the 70 Kashmiris who lost their lives during Mirwaiz Farooq’s funeral procession. Andrabi said no one has faced accountability for the killings.

Pakistan said it will continue raising the Kashmir dispute at international forums. The latest Security Council discussion highlighted continuing diplomatic differences between Pakistan and India over the issue.
