K-Electric recorded its highest-ever industrial electricity consumption in fiscal year 2025-26, with power usage across its industrial feeders reaching 6.08 billion units, as Pakistan’s economy expanded by 3.7%, reflecting increased industrial activity in Karachi.

According to the utility, the record consumption highlights Karachi’s role as Pakistan’s economic hub and underscores the importance of a reliable electricity supply in supporting industrial production and business growth.

K-Electric Chief Executive Officer Syed Muhammad Taha said the milestone reflects the combined efforts of the Government of Pakistan, the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), and Karachi’s industrial community in creating a stable environment for investment and economic development.

He said Karachi remains at the centre of Pakistan’s industrial and commercial landscape, adding that K-Electric has supplied load-shedding-free electricity to industrial consumers since 2013 and remains committed to providing reliable and sustainable power.

The utility said its industrial feeders serve manufacturing facilities across multiple industrial zones equipped with 100% smart meters, allowing businesses to monitor electricity consumption in real time.

The B3 consumer category, which includes industries with connected loads between 501kW and 5,000kW, recorded the highest electricity usage. The category covers key sectors such as cement, steel and textiles.

On a monthly basis, June 2026 registered the highest industrial electricity consumption, followed by April 2026.

The previous record stood at 5.84 billion units in FY22, when Pakistan’s GDP growth exceeded 6%. Industrial power consumption slowed in the following years because of economic challenges but rebounded strongly in FY26.

K-Electric said industrial electricity demand increased 20% year-on-year from 5.04 billion units in FY25, supported by stronger economic growth and government incentives encouraging industries to shift from captive power generation to the national grid.

During the fiscal year, the utility connected 349 new industrial customers, while 273 existing industries expanded their electricity loads, adding a combined 168 megawatts (MW) of demand to its network.

K-Electric added that industrial consumers continue to maintain one of the strongest bill recovery rates among all customer categories, which remains a key factor in their exemption from load shedding. The company said it will continue working to ensure a reliable power supply for Karachi’s industrial sector despite operational challenges.
