Iran Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has called on Muslim countries, especially Gulf states, to unite against what he described as their “real enemy”. He also warned that divisions among Muslim nations could serve the interests of their adversaries.

Mojtaba issued the message on his Telegram account during Islamic Unity Week, which marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He called for stronger cooperation among Muslim countries in political, economic and security affairs.

The Iranian leader said Muslim nations should also strengthen mutual defence. He argued that anyone who deliberately or unintentionally creates divisions among Muslims ultimately helps those seeking to weaken the Islamic world.

Mojtaba urges Gulf states to unite

Mojtaba directly addressed the rulers of Gulf countries and urged them to reassess regional threats. He questioned whether outside powers would have challenged the sovereignty and resources of Gulf states if their governments and populations had acted together.

He described the United States as the leading force behind what he called colonial and hegemonic ambitions. According to Iran’s Press TV, Mojtaba accused Washington and its allies of openly pursuing domination in the region.

He also linked Muslim unity to the situation in Palestine. Mojtaba asked whether Palestinians would have faced the same level of suffering if Muslim countries had maintained a stronger united position.

His remarks reflect Tehran’s broader push for greater cooperation among Muslim-majority states amid continuing regional tensions.

Call for stronger Islamic cooperation

Mojtaba said Muslim countries should expand cooperation across several areas. He presented unity as a foundation for political strength and long-term development.

He also argued that stronger cooperation could help Muslim nations protect their interests and respond more effectively to external pressure.

The Iranian leader described Muslim unity as a key requirement for building what he called a powerful Islamic civilisation. He added that Iran had already achieved a significant level of unity within this broader vision.

His comments come as tensions remain high across the Middle East. Regional governments continue to face security, economic and diplomatic challenges linked to the wider conflict.

Message echoes earlier appeal to Iranians

Mojtaba’s latest remarks follow a separate message to the Iranian public on Friday. In that statement, he said he had prohibited actions that could damage social cohesion.

He also urged officials to avoid statements that could weaken public confidence or national morale.

The two messages share a similar theme. Mojtaba has placed national and religious unity at the centre of his recent public statements.

His appeal also comes during a period of heightened regional uncertainty. Iran faces continued pressure from the United States and its allies while tensions remain elevated across the Gulf and surrounding areas.

Mojtaba has remained largely out of public view since the beginning of the US-Israeli war against Iran. His father, former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Mojtaba, was killed during the conflict.

His limited public appearances have drawn attention as Iran manages the political and security consequences of the war.

Against this backdrop, the latest call for Muslim unity carries wider regional significance. Tehran appears keen to strengthen ties with neighbouring Muslim states and encourage a coordinated response to external pressure.

For Gulf countries, however, closer cooperation with Iran would involve navigating complex political and security relationships with both Tehran and Washington.

Mojtaba’s message nevertheless signals his continued emphasis on unity. He urged Muslim governments to identify what he considers their main threats and work together to protect their sovereignty, security and interests.
