Imran Anees Siddiqui Claims Naya Nazimabad Independence Day Snooker Title

KARACHI: Imran Anees Siddiqui won the Naya Nazimabad Jashn-e-Azadi Snooker Championship after a thrilling final against Mujaddid Khan at the Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana.

Siddiqui secured the title in a best-of-five final that went down to the decisive frame. He held his nerve during the black-ball tie-breaker to seal victory.

Mujaddid Khan produced a strong challenge throughout the contest. However, a wayward shot in the final frame handed Siddiqui the decisive advantage.

Sattar praises players and sports facilities

Former federal minister and senior MQM-P leader Dr Farooq Sattar attended the closing ceremony as chief guest.

He joined Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana President Syed Muhammad Talha in distributing prizes among the participating players.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sattar praised both finalists for their performance. He said winning and losing form an essential part of competitive sport.

He congratulated Siddiqui on his victory and encouraged Khan to continue working hard.

Sattar also praised the sports facilities available at Naya Nazimabad. He described the venue as an important platform for young athletes.

Naya Nazimabad expands sports opportunities

Industrialist Arif Habib has developed Naya Nazimabad into a major sports destination. The project features facilities for more than 20 sports.

These include swimming, squash, cricket, football and badminton.

Sattar said young people should make full use of these facilities. He added that such opportunities could help athletes prepare for domestic and international competitions.

Meanwhile, Hassan Khan finished third in the snooker championship. He recorded the tournament’s highest break of 49.

Muhammad Atiq, also known as Ami, reached the semi-finals before losing his match.

Muhammad Ahmed officiated as the referee during the championship.

Several prominent figures attended the closing ceremony. They included businessmen Tariq Iqbal, Saleem Tariq and Kamran Sheikh.

Sports Manager Muhammad Asif and Field Manager Irfan Sajid also attended the event, along with other guests and sports officials.

The championship provided local snooker players with an opportunity to compete in a competitive setting as Pakistan prepares to celebrate Independence Day.
