Dylan Sprouse Reveals He Received Just Five Cents in Residuals From ‘The Suite Life of Zack and Cody’

Actor Dylan Sprouse has revealed that he received only five cents in residual payments for his work on Disney Channel’s hit sitcom The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.

Sprouse shared the surprising detail during the November 3 episode of his Wildmen podcast. He reunited with former co-star Phill Lewis to discuss their experiences on the popular series.

Sprouse said the only residual payment he could recall receiving came from a crossover episode featuring Hannah Montana.

“The only residual check I have ever received for The Suite Life at all was a crossover episode with Hannah Montana for five cents,” he said. He stressed that the amount was not a joke.

Actors Discuss Disney Channel Contracts

The Suite Life of Zack and Cody originally aired from 2005 to 2008. Its spin-off, The Suite Life on Deck, followed from 2008 to 2011. Together, the two series produced around 190 episodes during Sprouse’s time with Disney Channel.

Lewis also discussed the contracts actors worked under during production. He claimed that studios could film large numbers of episodes within one calendar year while counting them as a single television season.

According to Lewis, this arrangement helped the network avoid additional salary increases.

Sprouse described the show as popular but underfunded. Both actors also reflected on the television industry before streaming platforms became widespread.

Lewis recalled that the programmes aired repeatedly throughout the day. He also said they reached audiences in approximately 90 countries.

Dylan Sprouse Praises Former Co-Star Phill Lewis

Despite the discussion about residual payments, Sprouse spoke warmly about Lewis. The actor played hotel manager Marion Moseby in the original series.

Sprouse described Lewis as a second father figure. He also said they remain close, spend time together and speak regularly.

Furthermore, Sprouse credited Lewis with helping develop his love of acting. He praised his former co-star’s talent and personality.

Both The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and The Suite Life on Deck are available to stream on Disney+.
