Karachi, August 12, 2026: The Chinese Consulate-General in Karachi has donated 110 latest fogger machines worth Rs1.7 million to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to support fumigation and disease-prevention efforts ahead of the monsoon season.

Acting Consul General of China in Karachi Feng Deheng handed over the equipment during a ceremony at the Chinese Consulate-General. Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab attended the event and thanked the Chinese government for supporting the city.

Feng said China and Pakistan had stood by each other through difficult times for 75 years, describing their relationship as a deep and enduring friendship.

He noted that 2026 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He said the bilateral relationship had remained strong despite changes in the international environment.

Feng said the leadership of both countries continues to prioritise stronger cooperation. He referred to President Xi Jinping’s meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in May, when both sides agreed to advance the China-Pakistan Community with a Shared Future.

He said the two countries also planned to combine major development projects with smaller initiatives focused directly on improving people’s lives.

Highlighting Karachi’s importance, Feng described the city as Pakistan’s economic, financial and cultural centre and an important link between China and Pakistan.

Karachi and Shanghai established friendship-city relations in 1984. Since then, the two cities have cooperated in areas including urban development, transportation planning and cultural exchanges.

Feng also highlighted Karachi’s role in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. He cited the Port Qasim Coal-fired Power Plant, Thar Coal Mine and Power Integration Project, Sukkur-Multan section of the Peshawar-Karachi Motorway and Dhabeji Special Economic Zone as major examples of bilateral cooperation.

He praised Mayor Wahab for supporting events marking the 75th anniversary of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations.

Feng recalled that major Karachi landmarks, including the KMC building, were illuminated in Chinese red on May 21 to mark the anniversary.

He said the Chinese side appreciated Karachi’s gesture as a reflection of the longstanding friendship between the two countries.

The donated equipment will help KMC conduct fumigation across the city during the rainy season. Officials expect the machines to strengthen Karachi monsoon preparedness and help reduce the risk of seasonal infectious diseases.

Feng said the rainy season can increase public health risks and make effective disinfection particularly important.

He added that China attaches great importance to healthcare development in Karachi and the well-being of the city’s residents.

Describing the donation as a practical livelihood initiative, Feng said the equipment reflected the “ironclad” friendship and mutual support between China and Pakistan.

He also pledged that the Chinese Consulate-General would continue supporting people-to-people cooperation and practical community initiatives across its consular district.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab thanked the Acting Consul General and the Chinese government for donating the 110 fumigation machines before the monsoon.

Wahab said KMC would use the equipment to expand spraying operations across Karachi and strengthen preparations for the rainy season.

The donation comes as Karachi authorities prepare for increased public health and sanitation challenges during the monsoon, with fumigation forming part of efforts to protect residents and control disease risks.
