Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has accused India of starting a war based on what he called a “lie” after Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim declined to describe alleged Pakistani involvement in terrorism as state-sponsored.
Bilawal made the remarks on X while responding to a clip from Anwar’s interview with Indian broadcaster NDTV.
“India now stands exposed internationally,” Bilawal said.
He added that India had “started a war based on a lie and lost miserably”. He also urged India to honour its commitments under the ceasefire agreement with Pakistan.
Anwar gave the interview during his visit to New Delhi for the BRICS summit.
NDTV journalist Vishnu Som asked the Malaysian prime minister whether he considered Israel’s actions against Hamas to constitute terrorism.
Anwar responded that he considered them “state terrorism”.
Som then asked whether Anwar would apply the same description to alleged Pakistani actions linked to the Pahalgam attack and other incidents involving India.
Anwar declined to make that comparison.

He said he remained cautious because he was speaking in India. He also referred to his close relationship with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Anwar said Malaysia continued to engage with Pakistan. He expressed the view that the issues between the two countries could be resolved.
Som pressed Anwar on why he had not directly condemned Pakistan over the terrorism allegations.
Anwar said the allegations needed to be established before he could make such a judgment.
He acknowledged that terrorist acts may have occurred but said authorities needed to establish the facts with certainty.
Anwar also said Malaysian intelligence officials engaged with India had not told him that state-sponsored terrorism had occurred.
He said Malaysia would consider the information available to it while maintaining its engagement with both countries.
Bilawal said India should discuss “all friction points with Pakistan”.
He said dialogue could help the two countries work towards peace, prosperity and stability in the region.
The PPP chairman also called on New Delhi to fulfil its commitments made during the ceasefire.
His comments came as Pakistan and India continue to face unresolved disputes following their military confrontation in 2025.
The latest major escalation began after the April 22, 2025 attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which killed 26 people.
India blamed Pakistan for the attack, while Pakistan rejected the allegation.
India then announced several measures, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, cancellation of visas for Pakistani citizens and closure of the Wagah-Attari border crossing.
Tensions rose further on May 7, when India launched missile strikes on locations in Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, according to Pakistani officials.
Pakistan responded with military action and said it targeted Indian military installations.
The confrontation intensified again on May 10 after further strikes by both sides.
Later that day, then-US President Donald Trump announced that Pakistan and India had agreed to an immediate ceasefire following diplomatic efforts.
Both countries subsequently confirmed the ceasefire.
