Saudi Arabia has yet to answer Bangladesh’s questions about the execution of two Bangladeshi nationals. Saudi authorities carried out the executions on October 14 without notifying Dhaka, a foreign ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Shahidul Karim confirmed that Bangladesh was still awaiting a response.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam said earlier this week that Dhaka had requested details about the cases.
The government has asked Saudi Arabia for copies of the court verdicts. It also wants details of the offences and an explanation for the lack of prior notification to Bangladesh’s diplomatic mission.
Islam said the government would decide its next steps after receiving the documents. Dhaka would also discuss the matter with Saudi authorities before taking further action.

The Saudi embassy in Dhaka did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Saudi Arabia’s Interior Ministry said a man and a woman had been executed after their convictions for committing indecent acts inside a mosque in Makkah. Saudi media reported the ministry’s statement.
Bangladesh is seeking more information about the convictions and the circumstances surrounding the executions. The government plans to review the documents before deciding how to proceed.
Saudi Arabia is Bangladesh’s largest overseas labour market. An estimated 3.5 million Bangladeshi workers live and work in the kingdom.
These workers send substantial remittances to families back home. Their welfare remains an important issue in relations between the two countries.
Dhaka’s request for clarification follows the executions without prior notification to Bangladeshi diplomatic officials. Bangladesh says it will assess the matter after reviewing the case documents and consulting Saudi authorities.
