Atif Aslam Says ‘Magic’ Sets Coke Studio Pakistan Apart From India

Atif Aslam has once again highlighted what he believes makes Coke Studio Pakistan different from its Indian counterpart, saying the Pakistani franchise carries a special “jaadoo” or magic.

Speaking in a recent interview with Mirchi UAE, the singer discussed the differences between Coke Studio Pakistan and Coke Studio Bharat. He also shared his thoughts on the growing use of artificial intelligence in music.

When asked what separates the two shows, Aslam acknowledged the strength of compositions on both sides. However, he said Pakistani music retains a certain rawness that he feels is less evident in the Indian version.

According to the singer, Coke Studio Bharat has a stronger commercial focus. In contrast, Coke Studio Pakistan places greater emphasis on original compositions.

Atif Aslam Highlights Pakistan’s Musical Identity

Aslam described the creative process behind Pakistani productions as highly demanding.

He said a small group of musicians and producers can face an almost “do-or-die situation” while developing a composition. Nevertheless, the process allows artists to add their own personal flair.

For Aslam, that combination of pressure, originality and individual expression contributes to the distinctive character of Coke Studio Pakistan.

The singer has remained closely associated with the franchise over the years. His performances include the widely recognised Tajdar-e-Haram from Season 8 and Wohi Khuda Hai from Season 12.

He later appeared on pop-fusion tracks such as Sajan Das Na and Go during Season 14.

Singer Discusses AI’s Role in Music

The interview also shifted toward artificial intelligence and its potential impact on musicians.

Aslam offered a measured view rather than rejecting the technology outright. He said AI could potentially replicate singing as a technical skill.

Composition, however, is different, he argued. In his view, creating music involves personal emotion, perspective and subjective choices that are difficult to reproduce.

To explain his point, Aslam said writing a song about a specific person would require detailed knowledge of that individual. Without those personal details, he questioned whether AI could create something genuinely meaningful.

The singer also acknowledged using AI tools himself. He said he might use ChatGPT for assistance with lyrics.

Atif Aslam Returns to Personal Music

His comments come shortly after the release of his fourth studio album, Subah Aye Na, on July 31.

The album marked Aslam’s first full-length studio record in 18 years. His previous studio album, Meri Kahani, was released in 2008.

Notably, the new project reflects a more personal creative direction. Aslam has previously said that years of touring left him disconnected from his artistic roots.

He has also expressed frustration with commercially driven music. Consequently, Subah Aye Na represents a deliberate attempt to reconnect with the kind of music he wants to create.

For a singer whose career has spanned Pakistan’s pop scene, Bollywood and international stages, his latest comments underline an ongoing debate about creativity, commercial pressures and technology.

Ultimately, Aslam believes the human element remains central to composition, even as AI becomes increasingly involved in the music industry.
