Pakistan fast bowler Aiman Anwar has announced her retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a seven-year career in which she represented the country across both limited-overs formats. The Aiman Anwar retirement was confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday.

Aiman, 29, played eight One-Day Internationals for Pakistan, taking four wickets, and appeared in 37 Twenty20 Internationals, where she claimed 29 wickets.

Her international career began in July 2016 when she made her T20I debut against England in Southampton. She earned her first ODI appearance against Bangladesh in Colombo the following year.

Over the course of her career, Aiman became part of several major Pakistan women’s cricket campaigns and represented the national side at multiple World Cups.

From Karachi junior cricket to Pakistan

Aiman first attracted attention at the domestic level when she represented Karachi Under-19 at the PCB National Under-19 Women’s Championship in January 2010.

Her performances eventually helped her progress into the national setup and earn an international opportunity six years later.

Her debut against England marked the beginning of a career that would span nearly seven years at the highest level.

Aiman went on to feature regularly in Pakistan’s T20 setup, where her pace bowling provided another option for the national team.

World Cup appearances highlight career

The former Pakistan pacer was selected for the country’s squads at the 2018, 2020 and 2022-23 Women’s T20 World Cups.

She also represented Pakistan at the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand, adding an ODI global tournament appearance to her international career.

Across 45 international matches, Aiman finished with 33 wickets, including four in ODIs and 29 in T20Is.

Her final international appearance came in February 2023, bringing her playing career for Pakistan to a close.

A new role in cricket

Although she has stepped away from playing, Aiman has remained involved in the sport.

Following her playing career, she moved into broadcasting and began working as a cricket broadcaster.

She has now taken another step into the game’s administration and officiating structure.

This week, Aiman made her debut as a match referee in the National Women’s Under-19 Tournament after completing her induction course in January.

Her move into match officiating gives the former international player an opportunity to continue contributing to women’s cricket from a different role.

Aiman’s retirement marks the end of a Pakistan international career that began with a T20 debut against England and included appearances at four major World Cup tournaments.

While her playing days are over, her transition into broadcasting and match officiating means she is set to remain part of Pakistan’s cricket landscape.
