Actor Adam Brody has admitted that he wishes he had proposed to his wife, Leighton Meester, in a more romantic way.

The 46-year-old actor reflected on the moment during an October 26 appearance on Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. He joined his Nobody Wants This co-stars Kristen Bell, Justine Lupe and Timothy Simons for the podcast.

The conversation turned to marriage proposals as the group discussed romantic storylines in their Netflix series. Brody chose not to share the exact details of his proposal. However, he admitted that it was less romantic than he now believes Meester deserved.

“The only thing romantic about it was the speed,” Brody said, referring to how quickly their relationship progressed. He also described the proposal as “very pedestrian” and noted that they married soon after becoming engaged.

Brody and Meester’s relationship became public in February 2013. They announced their engagement by November of that year and married in a private ceremony in Northern California in early 2014. The couple has largely kept details of their relationship and wedding out of the public eye.

During the podcast, Brody also shared advice for people planning to propose. He encouraged them to think about how they and their partners will remember and retell the moment.

“At the time, you are like, whatever, but you are going to tell that story the rest of your life,” he said.

Timothy Simons suggested that Brody may have approached the proposal in a practical way. Brody agreed that this could have been the case, but admitted that he still regrets not making the occasion more special.

“There is that. And yet, and yet, I do kick myself a little,” Brody said. “She deserved a little more.”

Brody and Meester share two children and have been married for more than 12 years. Meanwhile, Brody continues to star in the Netflix series Nobody Wants This, whose third season is streaming on the platform.
