Sindh Senior Minister and Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has criticised the leadership of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) over its recent campaign for new administrative units.
Memon said the language used by MQM-P leaders was unacceptable. He accused the party of promoting division and reviving what he described as the politics of the 1990s.
His remarks came after MQM-P leaders intensified their campaign for new administrative units. The party held a major rally in Karachi on Sunday and called for administrative reforms across Pakistan, including Sindh.
Memon specifically criticised MQM-P Chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and leader Mustafa Kamal. He said their political approach was reminiscent of the 1990s.
He also alleged that MQM’s past politics had contributed to violence, extortion, kidnappings and arson in Karachi. These are political allegations made by the provincial minister and were not independently established in his statement.
Memon said the Sindh Assembly had already adopted a resolution opposing attempts to divide the province or create new administrative units.
The assembly passed the resolution on September 4 amid a boycott by MQM-P and Jamaat-i-Islami lawmakers. MQM-P lawmakers had sought the inclusion of provisions supporting administrative units and greater devolution of powers.

MQM-P has maintained a different position. During its September 20 rally, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said the party would continue its campaign for new administrative units. He argued that such units should be based on administrative considerations rather than linguistic divisions.
The issue has therefore become a growing point of political disagreement between the Sindh government and MQM-P.
The Sindh minister also questioned MQM-P’s claims about its political mandate.
He said the party should demonstrate its support through elections before making claims about public backing.
Memon further referred to local government elections while challenging the party’s position.
MQM-P, meanwhile, has presented its recent Karachi rally as evidence of public support for its demand for administrative units.
The debate comes as several political groups in Sindh have taken opposing positions on the future administrative structure of the province.
The Sindh United Party also held a rally on September 21 opposing the creation of new provinces and administrative units in Sindh.
The dispute is likely to remain a major political issue in Sindh as parties continue to debate administrative devolution, local governance and the province’s constitutional status.
