Dr Zahid Hasan Ansari has called for stronger implementation of laws designed to empower and employ persons with disabilities in Sindh.
Ansari, a member of the Provincial Advisory Council of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), Government of Sindh, made the remarks at a seminar and assistive-device distribution ceremony in Karachi.
The Pakistan Association of the Deaf (PAD) organised the event in collaboration with DEPD at the Centre of Excellence for the Deaf.
The event was held to mark the International Day of Sign Languages 2026. This year’s programme focused on recognising the human rights of deaf people.
Ansari stressed the need to protect the rights, dignity and economic independence of persons with disabilities.
He said the Sindh Persons with Disabilities Act, 2018 provides an important legal framework for inclusion and equal opportunities.
He urged government departments, businesses and other institutions to implement the employment provisions of the law effectively.

Ansari also called for practical measures to improve skills development and access to jobs.
“Meaningful implementation of the law can make a major difference in the lives of persons with disabilities by providing them with opportunities for employment, independence and self-respect,” he said.
He said institutions should move beyond policy commitments and take concrete steps to create employment opportunities.
Ansari said empowering persons with disabilities is both a legal responsibility and a contribution to society.
He highlighted the importance of greater inclusion in education, employment and economic activity.
According to Ansari, better access to these opportunities can help persons with disabilities participate more independently in community life.
He also urged businesses to play a stronger role in creating inclusive workplaces.
The event brought together government officials, business representatives, disability-rights advocates, children and adults with disabilities.
The ceremony also included the distribution of assistive devices to support people with disabilities.
Organisers said such devices can help address barriers to communication, mobility and participation.
The initiative also highlighted the importance of practical support alongside legal and policy measures.
Chief Guest Rajvir Singh Sodha, Adviser to the Chief Minister, attended the ceremony.
Secretary DEPD Taha Farooqui, Dr Saira Bano of PAD, Irfan Mumtaz of the Centre of Excellence for the Deaf/PAD and Shahzad Mobin, CEO of Walkies, were also present.
Sarfaraz Ahmed Khan, CEO of Salman Foods, Zahid, HR Head of Medicam, and other business representatives also attended the event.
