Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah has assured industrialists that the provincial government will work to resolve their issues on a priority basis.

He made the remarks during a meeting with representatives of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) in Karachi.

Shah said the government was working to facilitate industry through a one-window mechanism. He also urged industrialists to submit their proposals so authorities could take action on their concerns.

The meeting covered the Yellow Line project, water supply, infrastructure, labour matters, fire safety, taxation and other issues affecting businesses in Korangi.

Government Plans Coordinated Action for Industry

The chief secretary said several problems were common across Karachi’s industrial zones.

He said authorities were already aware of many of these issues and had started work on possible solutions.

Shah also proposed a three-member committee to facilitate industry and prepare an action plan for unresolved issues.

He said matters related to stamp duty, the Labour Department and minimum-wage inspections would be discussed with the business community.

He also asked KATI to submit proposals concerning Mehran Town and other issues for consideration in future policy decisions.

Yellow Line Project Raises Industry Concerns

The Yellow Line BRT project was a major issue discussed at the meeting.

Shah assured KATI that its concerns about the project would be addressed. He said development work should not disrupt industrial operations in Korangi.

He noted the economic importance of the industrial area and said businesses could not afford prolonged disruption.

KATI representatives have previously raised concerns about the Yellow Line’s implementation and called for consultation with stakeholders. Recent reporting also confirmed that the Sindh government has assured KATI of consultation on the project.

KATI Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya said the project was important for Karachi but warned that disruption to industrial transport could affect businesses and exports.

He said goods and export consignments move daily from Korangi to ports and other parts of the country.

KATI Seeks More Funds for Korangi

KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput said the Sindh government had approved a development package of Rs9.282 billion for Karachi’s industrial areas.

He said Rs2 billion had been allocated for KATI.

Earlier reporting had also placed the Sindh government’s allocation for Karachi’s industrial zones at around Rs9 billion, including Rs2 billion for KATI.

Rajput described the allocation as an important step but said Korangi required additional funding and a long-term development programme.

He said infrastructure problems had accumulated over several decades.

The KATI president identified water supply as one of the major problems affecting the Korangi Industrial Area.

He called for additional development funds and a comprehensive, phased infrastructure package.

Industrialists Report Fewer Complaints After Task Force

Zubair Chhaya said the government’s task force had helped address several concerns raised by industrialists.

He said complaints had declined significantly since the task force was formed.

He also highlighted the unresolved issue of Mehran Town.

Chhaya said the government should consider granting Mehran Town industrial-area status in light of a recent Supreme Court decision, according to the KATI position presented at the meeting.

Business representatives also raised issues involving labour regulations, fire safety, minimum-wage inspections, stamp duty, revenue matters and taxation.

Officials Attend KATI Meeting

The meeting was attended by senior officials and KATI representatives.

They included KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput, Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya, KITE Limited Chairman Zahid Saeed and KITE CEO Saleem-uz-Zaman.

Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation Managing Director Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, Korangi Deputy Commissioner Masood Bhutto, Korangi SSP Fida Hussain Janwari, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Behzad Memon and Yellow Line Project Director Kamal Dayo also attended.

Other KATI office-bearers, former chairmen and presidents, municipal officials and industry representatives participated in the discussions.

The participants presented proposals on infrastructure and other industrial issues.

Shah assured the business community of government cooperation and said the concerns raised during the meeting would be considered through the relevant departments.
