The Government of Japan has provided assistance for a water supply and sanitation project in Matiari, Sindh.

Japan funded the project through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme.

The project aims to improve access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities in six flood-affected villages.

The local NGO Sindh Community Foundation (SCF) implemented the project.

Six Water Filtration Plants Built

The project included the construction of six reverse osmosis (RO) water filtration plants.

It also provided 82 sanitation facilities across the six villages.

The facilities aim to address problems linked to unsafe drinking water and poor sanitation.

The project is expected to improve public health and living conditions for local communities.

Residents will gain better access to safe drinking water and improved sanitation services.

Local Committees to Manage Facilities

The project also includes measures to support long-term maintenance.

Village-level maintenance committees have been formed to manage the water filtration plants.

The committees will oversee the operation and maintenance of the plants through community contributions.

Beneficiary families will also maintain and clean the sanitation facilities.

The community-based system aims to keep the facilities operational after the project ends.

Japan Expands Grassroots Support in Pakistan

Japan said it has implemented more than 400 projects in Pakistan through its GGP programme.

The programme supports community-level initiatives in areas such as healthcare, education, water supply and sanitation.

Japan said it would continue working with local partners to support vulnerable communities.

The government also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation and longstanding ties between Japan and Pakistan.
