Imran Sarwar Appointed NBP President and Chief Executive Officer

The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has welcomed Imran Sarwar as its new President and Chief Executive Officer.

Sarwar brings more than 36 years of banking experience to the country’s leading financial institution. His career spans corporate, institutional and investment banking, along with credit and risk management.

His experience covers both Pakistan and international financial markets. He also brings extensive leadership and strategic expertise to his new role at NBP.

Imran Sarwar Brings Extensive Banking Experience

Before joining NBP, Sarwar served at United Bank Limited (UBL) as Group Executive, Risk & Credit Policy and Chief Risk Officer.

During his tenure, he played a key role in strengthening the bank’s risk management structure. He also contributed to the development of its credit policy framework.

His career also includes several senior positions at Standard Chartered Bank.

Sarwar served as Managing Director and Head of Corporate Banking for the UAE. The role gave him significant experience in corporate banking and international financial markets.

Experience in Governance and Risk Management

Sarwar has also contributed to Pakistan’s financial sector through board-level roles.

He served on the boards of Khushhali Microfinance Bank and the Pakistan Mortgage Refinance Company (PMRC).

His board experience covered areas including risk management, governance and financial policy.

This combination of executive and board-level experience adds to his leadership profile as he takes charge of NBP.

Academic Background

Sarwar holds a degree in Business and Accounting from Ohio Wesleyan University in the United States.

He also holds an LLB from the University of the Punjab.

His academic background combines business, accounting and legal studies with his extensive banking experience.

NBP Looks to Strengthen Its Role

NBP said it looks forward to Sarwar’s leadership as the bank continues to strengthen its position as a trusted financial institution.
