Rotary Karachi Walk Raises Awareness About Mouth Cancer, Polio and Drug Abuse

Rotary Karachi organised a “Walk a Cause” in Karachi to raise awareness about mouth cancer, polio and drug abuse.

The campaign focused on oral health, early detection and disease prevention. It also promoted the continued effort to make Pakistan polio-free.

The event was organised with the collaboration of the Narcotics Control Department Sindh and the Anti-Narcotics Force.

Walk Promotes Public Health Awareness

The walk began at McDonald’s at 7:10am. Participants then walked towards Nishan-e-Pakistan.

The walk ended with a closing ceremony at Nishan-e-Pakistan. Senior Rotary leaders and distinguished guests addressed the gathering.

Shields and certificates were also presented to guests and supporters.

Honnak Baloch, DG Narcotics & Control, Government of Sindh, attended the event as chief guest.

He highlighted the dangers of narcotics and drug abuse. He also warned about the harmful effects of tobacco, gutka, niswar and other substances.

Baloch stressed the need for collective action. He particularly highlighted the impact of substance abuse on young people.

Rotary Highlights Prevention and Vaccination

District Governor Shahzad Sabir highlighted Rotary’s commitment to community service.

He stressed the importance of public-health awareness. He also called for greater community participation in prevention and early detection.

Sabir said vaccination remains essential to maintaining progress towards a polio-free Pakistan.

DG MOFA Irfan Soomro also highlighted the importance of cooperation. He called for stronger links between Rotary, public institutions and community organisations.

Rotary Clubs Join the Campaign

Dr Syed Naveed Manzoor chaired the event. He is Chair of the Oral Health Committee and President of RCK Pearl.

Dr Kausar Tariq, Co-Chair of the Oral Health Committee, also played a key role in the initiative.

Naveed Adenwalla supported the campaign. He is President 2026–27 of the Rotary Club of Karachi Educational Development.

Several Rotary clubs participated in the programme. These included RCK Pearl, RCK Sunset Millennium and RCK Quaid.

RCK Educational Development, RCK Happy Palace and RCK Environment also joined the campaign.

RCK Roshni, RCK Centennial and RCK Sunrise supported the initiative.

Guests Attend Closing Ceremony

Several prominent personalities attended the closing ceremony.

They included DGE Fahad Sikander and DGN Abdul Jabbar Sheikh. DG MOFA Irfan Soomro and MPA Rehan Bandukda were also present.

Dr Noor ul Wahab of the Pakistan Dental Association attended the event. Mazhar Valgee of Kiran Hospital and Kiran Patients Welfare Society also participated.

Dr Annie Talaal, Durdana Arshad and Areeba Hunain of HOL Foundation were among the guests.

Maj Saleem of the Anti-Narcotics Force also attended the ceremony.

Representatives from healthcare organisations, academia and civil society joined the event.

Campaign Receives Media Attention

The campaign received significant media coverage. The coverage helped spread the public-health message to a wider audience.

Organisers highlighted the dangers of gutka, chalia, niswar and tobacco. These substances can increase serious health risks.

The campaign also promoted awareness about drug abuse. It encouraged families and young people to make healthier choices.

Rotary leaders reaffirmed their commitment to community health. They also stressed the importance of continued efforts for a polio-free Pakistan.

Shields and Certificates Presented

The closing ceremony was hosted by PP Syed Kashif Rafi. He serves as Advisor to the District Governor 2026–27.

Rafi thanked the guests, Rotary leaders and participating clubs. He also appreciated the partners and volunteers who supported the campaign.

The programme ended with the presentation of shields and certificates.

The initiative reinforced Rotary Karachi’s commitment to public health. It also highlighted the importance of community action in preventing disease and substance abuse.
