SpaceX Sets New Launch Record With Two Falcon 9 Missions 38 Minutes Apart

SpaceX set a new company record on Saturday night by launching two Falcon 9 rockets for Globalstar and the United States Space Force just 38.5 minutes apart, according to Spaceflight Now.

The first Falcon 9 lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 9:12 p.m. EDT (0112 GMT), carrying eight Globalstar satellites to replenish the company’s low Earth orbit constellation.

The Falcon 9 first-stage booster, B1090, completed its 14th flight before landing at Landing Zone 40 about eight minutes after liftoff.

Just 38.5 minutes later, another Falcon 9 launched the classified USSF-366 mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California at 9:50 p.m. EDT (0150 GMT).

The US Space Force did not disclose details about the payload, saying the mission was assigned under a previously awarded National Security Space Launch Phase 3 Lane 1 task order.

The second booster, B1088, successfully landed on the droneship Of Course I Still Love You in the Pacific Ocean. The landing marked the 650th successful Falcon booster landing.

The Globalstar mission had originally been scheduled for May 17 but was delayed to give teams additional time to prepare the satellites.

Globalstar CEO Paul E. Jacobs described the launch as an important step toward maintaining and strengthening the satellite infrastructure used by the company’s customers.

The mission also comes as Globalstar awaits its planned acquisition by Amazon. The deal, expected to close in 2027, is intended to support Amazon Leo’s direct-to-device satellite services.

Globalstar announced on August 6 that it would suspend further earnings calls and updates to its forward-looking guidance while the proposed transaction remains pending.
