TDAP Marks Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with New Trade Push at Karachi Expo Centre

KARACHI: The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) marked Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with a ceremony at the Karachi Expo Centre, highlighting new efforts to boost exports and expand international trade opportunities.

The event also marked the Silver Jubilee of the Karachi Expo Centre. Business leaders, TDAP officials, media representatives and other guests attended the ceremony.

The event began with the hoisting of the national flag. TDAP Secretary Sheryar Taj then outlined the authority’s plans to strengthen Pakistan’s export sector.

Under its Business Plan 2026-27, TDAP has planned 483 trade development activities. These include 129 international exhibitions, 93 seminars and 130 webinars.

The plan also includes 54 trade delegations, 30 regional fairs for SMEs and women entrepreneurs, and 20 high-profile business forums.

Taj said these activities would help Pakistani businesses build international links. They would also improve the country’s presence in global markets.

TDAP has also planned several major events during the 2026-27 financial year. These include FoodAg 2026 in Karachi, the Made in Pakistan Exhibition in Bangladesh and TEXPO 2027 in Karachi.

The initiatives aim to increase Pakistan’s export visibility. They also seek to create new opportunities for exporters and strengthen links with international buyers.

New digital platform for exporters

A major highlight of the ceremony was the launch of the Preferential Trade Access Database (PTAD).

The new digital platform brings information about preferential market access under Pakistan’s 29 trade arrangements into one place.

The database will help exporters understand available trade concessions and identify potential international markets.

It will also provide market intelligence to businesses seeking to expand their exports.

The platform aims to make trade information easier to access. It could also help Pakistani exporters make better decisions when entering overseas markets.

Karachi Expo Centre enters new phase

The ceremony also highlighted modernization work at the Karachi Expo Centre.

TDAP has completed several development projects, while other projects remain underway.

The work includes waterproofing of exhibition halls and replacing corrugated sheets. The authority is also installing a solar power system and a modern firefighting system.

Officials said the projects would improve safety and energy efficiency at the exhibition facility.

The upgrades also aim to improve the centre’s sustainability and overall infrastructure.

The Karachi Expo Centre remains one of Pakistan’s key venues for trade exhibitions and business events.

Several prominent business figures addressed the ceremony.

They included Businessmen Group Chairman and former TDAP Chief Executive Zubair Motiwala, former KATI President Junaid Naqi and former FPCCI Senior Vice President Waseem Vohra.

TDAP Consultant Kamal Shehryar also spoke at the event.

Members of the business community welcomed the modernization of the Karachi Expo Centre.

They said improved facilities could encourage more exhibitions and business activity. They also appreciated TDAP’s wider efforts to support exporters and contribute to economic growth.
