Roston Chase admitted West Indies misjudged the conditions in the second Test against Pakistan after the visitors secured an eight-wicket victory at Queen’s Park Oval to level the two-match series 1-1. The West Indies captain said his side did not expect the pitch to offer significant turn so early, leaving them short of spin options on a surface that strongly favoured slow bowlers.
The match proved to be a contest dominated by spin, with 20 of the 30 wickets taken by bowlers falling to spinners. Roston Chase acknowledged that West Indies might have benefited from selecting an additional specialist spinner alongside left-arm orthodox bowler Jomel Warrican, while Pakistan’s decision to field two frontline spinners paid off.
“I don’t want to say we misread the pitch, but we didn’t think it was going to spin as much from so early,” Chase said after the defeat.
The West Indies skipper also revealed that a finger injury limited his ability to bowl his usual off-spin, forcing the team to rely heavily on Warrican throughout the match.
“My injury meant I couldn’t bowl as much as we expected. I rushed back a little too quickly and was still dealing with pain while bowling,” he explained.
Chase confirmed that uncapped spinner Joshua Bishop was available for selection but insisted he would not have dropped himself from the playing XI while he was still fit enough to contribute with the bat.

“Captaining the side, I would never leave myself out to play anyone else. If I couldn’t play at all, then I would sit out, but as long as I can contribute as a batsman, I will always play,” he said.
The captain also admitted West Indies’ pace attack struggled to adapt to the spin-friendly conditions. Pakistan responded to the hosts’ first-innings total of 344 by posting 266 for two, placing West Indies under sustained pressure.
“We needed to be more patient, defend one side of the wicket, and build pressure until the batters made mistakes,” Chase added.
Despite the loss, Warrican delivered an outstanding performance, bowling 46 overs in Pakistan’s first innings and claiming six wickets. Chase praised the left-arm spinner for maintaining discipline and consistency throughout a demanding workload.
West Indies were further weakened by the absence of all-rounder Justin Greaves, who suffered a leg injury while batting. Greaves had starred in the opening Test with seven wickets and was named Player of the Match, making his absence a significant setback for the home side.
The series finished level at 1-1, with West Indies now turning their attention to a two-match Test tour of Bangladesh in October and November, which will conclude their 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship campaign.
