KARACHI: Global healthcare company Novo Nordisk has appointed Mehtaz Khan as General Manager for Pakistan, effective 3 August 2026, reinforcing its long-term commitment to expanding diabetes and obesity care in the country. The appointment comes as the company accelerates growth following the launch of its innovative obesity therapy earlier this year and continues to improve access to treatment for people living with chronic diseases.

Mehtaz Khan joins Novo Nordisk at a pivotal time for Pakistan’s healthcare sector. He will lead the company’s local operations and support its strategy to strengthen partnerships, expand access to innovative therapies, and promote awareness of chronic diseases.

Experienced Healthcare Leader Takes Charge

With more than 15 years of leadership experience, Mehtaz Khan brings expertise in commercial strategy, brand development, portfolio management, and business transformation. His career spans Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf region, and Iraq.

Before joining Novo Nordisk, he served as Marketing Director for Abbott Nutrition International in Pakistan and Iraq. There, he led commercial transformation initiatives and drove portfolio growth. He also held senior leadership positions at Reckitt, Nestlé, Almarai, and Shan Foods.

His appointment reflects Novo Nordisk’s strategic focus on Pakistan, where diabetes and obesity continue to pose significant public health challenges.

Focus on Expanding Access to Care

Speaking after his appointment, Mehtaz Khan said he was pleased to join Novo Nordisk during an important phase for both the company and Pakistan’s healthcare landscape.

He said the growing burden of diabetes and obesity presents an opportunity to improve patient outcomes through innovation, stronger partnerships, and greater disease awareness. He added that he looks forward to working with healthcare stakeholders to expand access to treatment and deliver sustainable value for patients and the healthcare system.

Burak Cem, Vice President of Novo Nordisk’s Business Area Middle East and Central Asia (BAMECA), described Pakistan as an important market for the company.

He said Mehtaz Khan’s leadership experience and understanding of the local healthcare sector will help Novo Nordisk strengthen partnerships and expand access to innovative therapies across the country.
