K-Electric reported that electricity consumption across its industrial feeders climbed to a record 6.08 billion units during FY26. The increase came as Pakistan’s economy grew by 3.7% during the fiscal year, reflecting stronger industrial activity in Karachi.

KE Chief Executive Officer Syed Muhammad Taha said the achievement reflected the combined efforts of the Government of Pakistan, the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and Karachi’s industrial community.

He said their continued support had helped create a stable business environment that encouraged investment and economic growth.

Taha said Karachi remains the country’s industrial and commercial hub. He added that KE has supplied load-shedding-free electricity to industrial consumers since 2013 and will continue supporting economic growth with reliable and sustainable power.

Industrial Demand Hits New Record

KE’s industrial feeders serve manufacturing units across multiple industrial zones. The utility has installed 100% smart meters on these feeders, allowing businesses to monitor electricity consumption in real time.

The highest electricity demand came from the B3 category, which includes industries using between 501 and 5,000 kilowatts of power. The category covers sectors such as cement, steel and textiles.

On a monthly basis, industrial electricity consumption peaked in June 2026, followed by April 2026.

The previous annual record stood at 5.84 billion units in FY22, when Pakistan’s economy expanded by more than 6%.

New Connections Support Industrial Growth

Industrial electricity consumption remained moderate after FY22 because of economic challenges. However, demand rebounded strongly in FY26, rising 20% year-on-year from 5.04 billion units recorded in FY25.

KE attributed the increase to stronger economic growth and government incentives encouraging industries to shift from captive power generation to the national grid.

During FY26, KE energised 349 new industrial connections. Another 273 industrial customers increased their electricity load, adding a combined 168 megawatts of demand to the network.

The utility also noted that industrial consumers maintain some of the highest bill recovery rates among all customer categories. KE said timely bill payments remain a key reason why industrial feeders continue to receive exemption from load-shedding.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to providing industries with reliable electricity despite operational challenges, saying uninterrupted power remains essential for keeping Karachi’s economy moving.
