India Aim to End T20I Losing Streak as Zimbabwe Series Opens in Harare

India will begin their three-match T20 International series against Zimbabwe on Thursday at Harare Sports Club, hoping to end a six-match losing streak in the shortest format.

The reigning T20 World Cup champions have not won a T20I since March and have named a heavily rotated squad featuring youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and several uncapped players for the tour.

Harare Sports Club, one of Africa’s oldest international cricket venues, has hosted international matches since 1992 and staged several fixtures during the 2025 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers.

Harare Sports Club pitch report

The Harare surface generally favours batters, offering consistent bounce and a quick outfield that rewards aggressive stroke play. Fast bowlers often enjoy some early swing and seam movement, especially under overcast conditions, while spinners usually become more effective as the pitch slows later in the innings.

Teams chasing have enjoyed considerable success at the venue in recent years.

Average T20I score

A score between 150 and 165 is usually considered competitive at Harare Sports Club. However, the ground has witnessed several totals above 200 during recent international and qualifying tournaments.

Highest team total

Zimbabwe holds the highest T20I total at the venue after scoring 259-5 against Botswana during the 2025 Africa Qualifiers.

Among Full Member nations, India owns the highest total after posting 234-2 against Zimbabwe during the 2024 series.

Lowest team total

Malawi recorded the lowest T20I score at Harare after being dismissed for 71 against Namibia in 2025.

Among Full Member teams, Sri Lanka’s 80 against Zimbabwe in 2025 remains the lowest total.

India also suffered one of their lowest totals at the venue after Zimbabwe bowled them out for 102 during the opening match of the 2024 series.

Highest individual score

Former Australia captain Aaron Finch holds the record for the highest individual T20I score at Harare Sports Club. He smashed 172 off 76 balls against Zimbabwe in 2018, hitting 16 fours and 10 sixes.

Best bowling figures

Bangladesh all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain recorded the best bowling figures at the ground with 5-20 against Zimbabwe in 2022. It remains the only five-wicket haul in a T20 International at the venue.

Most runs at Harare Sports Club

Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza leads the all-time run-scoring list with 879 runs in 43 T20I innings at the venue.

Brian Bennett follows closely with 865 runs, including the only T20I century scored at Harare Sports Club.

Most wickets at Harare Sports Club

Zimbabwe fast bowler Richard Ngarava tops the wicket-taking charts with 40 wickets in 34 T20I innings, making him the most successful bowler at the ground.

The opening match offers India an opportunity to end their disappointing run in T20 cricket while giving several emerging players a chance to impress ahead of a busy international schedule.
