Javed Miandad has called for greater support for Pakistan’s young cricketers, saying the country has abundant talent but needs stronger investment in grassroots development to produce future stars.

The former Pakistan captain made the remarks during the certificate distribution ceremony for the Karachi Under-15 Boys’ Cricket Skill Development Programme, organised by the Jalaluddin Cricket Academy in collaboration with Helping Hand for Relief and Development at Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana.

Miandad calls for grassroots development

Addressing the ceremony as chief guest, Miandad said quality coaching and modern training at the grassroots level are essential for developing skilled cricketers.

“There is no shortage of talent in Pakistan. What is needed is proper patronage,” he said.

He praised the efforts of the Jalaluddin Cricket Academy and Helping Hand for nurturing young players. He also expressed confidence that many of the programme’s graduates would represent Pakistan in domestic and international cricket in the future.

Academy highlights long-term vision

Former Test cricketer and Project Head Jalaluddin said the academy’s long-term programme aims to identify and develop emerging cricket talent.

He said the academy has worked with young players for many years, and those efforts have produced encouraging results. Jalaluddin also urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to strengthen grassroots cricket by creating more opportunities for talented youngsters across the country.

He added that structured coaching programmes can play a vital role in producing the next generation of Pakistan’s cricketers.

Helping Hand backs youth development

Helping Hand for Relief and Development (USA) representative Sobia Naqi said her organisation is committed to empowering Muslim youth around the world through education, leadership and sports.

She said she hopes to see more young people from the Muslim world succeed in cricket and other sporting disciplines. Naqi also praised the Jalaluddin Cricket Academy for its contribution to youth development and described its work as highly commendable.

Camp Director Mohiuddin thanked everyone who supported the programme.

Former Test cricketers Sadiq Mohammad and Shoaib Mohammad, Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana President Syed Muhammad Talha, Muhammad Haris Khan, Iqbal Waris, Waheed Mirza, Ilyas Khan, Waqar Hussain, Asif Khan, and other guests attended the ceremony.

The event concluded with the distribution of certificates to participants who successfully completed the Under-15 Cricket Skill Development Programme.
