Standard Chartered Pakistan Promotes Menopause Awareness in the Workplace

Standard Chartered Pakistan marked World Menopause Day with an event focused on raising awareness about menopause and encouraging open conversations about women’s health and workplace wellbeing.

Held under the theme “Strength to Understand,” the event brought together colleagues, business leaders, industry stakeholders and healthcare experts. Discussions focused on breaking stigma, improving workplace inclusion, supporting talent retention and career progression, and helping organisations create more supportive working environments.

The initiative reflects Standard Chartered’s commitment to building an inclusive workplace that supports employees through different stages of their lives and careers.

Globally, the bank has adopted a research-led approach to menopause support. Its measures include menopause counselling, learning resources, workplace adjustments and flexible working options.

Leadership Discussion Highlights Workplace Support

A key part of the event was a leadership conversation featuring Tanuj Kapilashrami, Group Chief Operating Officer at Standard Chartered. The session, titled “Building Workplaces Where Women Can Thrive Through Every Life Stage,” examined how managers and organisations can turn awareness into practical support.

Adil Salahuddin, CEO and Head of Coverage at Standard Chartered Pakistan, said menopause should be recognised as a workplace and talent issue, as well as a matter of health and wellbeing.

“Menopause is more than a health and wellbeing conversation. It is also a workplace, inclusion and talent conversation,” Salahuddin said.

He noted that many women experience menopause while drawing on years of professional experience, leading teams and advancing their careers. He stressed the importance of creating an environment where employees can continue to contribute and thrive without feeling compelled to manage health concerns in silence.

Bank Calls for Open Conversations

Yasir Khwaja, Head of Human Resources at Standard Chartered Pakistan, said an inclusive workplace must recognise the experiences employees face at different stages of their lives.

He observed that menopause has often remained an unspoken subject, particularly in the region. Greater awareness and honest discussions, he added, can help women feel supported as they continue to develop their careers.

Experts Discuss Menopause Myths and Wellbeing

The event also featured a panel discussion titled “The Conversation We Do Not Usually Have.”

Erum Alizai, Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing at Standard Chartered, moderated the session. The panel included Tazeen Hussain, actor, host and Associate Professor of Practice at Habib University; Dr Sheeza Mohsin, executive coach, counsellor and corporate wellness consultant; and Dr Nida Najmi, Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Aga Khan University Hospital.

The discussion covered common myths and misconceptions about menopause, its physical and emotional effects, and its potential impact on workplace experiences. Panellists also explored how colleagues, managers and organisations can provide meaningful support.

Through the event, Standard Chartered Pakistan sought to bring leadership, workplace and medical perspectives together to broaden a conversation that has traditionally received limited attention in professional settings.

The initiative also aimed to encourage greater understanding among businesses, clients and industry stakeholders, helping promote more supportive and inclusive workplaces across Pakistan.
