Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to complete the first phase of the Jinnah Medical Complex and Research Centre by March 2027.

He issued the directive during a review meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad. The meeting examined construction plans for the medical complex and the Phase-2 extension of the Federal Government Polyclinic.

Shehbaz said quality healthcare remains a top government priority. He also called for faster reforms across the health sector.

Federal Polyclinic to Form First Phase

Officials presented several designs and construction proposals for the Jinnah Medical Complex during the meeting.

They also briefed the prime minister on progress at the Federal Government Polyclinic’s Phase-2 extension.

The meeting decided to make the under-construction extension in Sector G-11 the first phase of the Jinnah Medical Complex.

This approach aims to bring hospital services online as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, authorities will continue work to develop the facility into a modern medical centre.

Shehbaz directed officials to install advanced medical equipment and high-tech machinery at the hospital.

Furthermore, he ordered authorities to continue third-party validation alongside construction work. The measure aims to maintain transparency and ensure quality standards throughout the project.

PM Rewards Nurse Who Saved Newborn

Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif honoured nurse Razia Noreen for saving a newborn during the recent fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

The prime minister presented her with a Rs10 million cheque at the PM Office.

Shehbaz praised Razia for risking her own life to rescue the child. He said the entire nation recognised her courage and dedication.

The prime minister also announced that the government would confer the Sitara-e-Khidmat on Razia on March 23, 2027.

He said the honour would recognise her extraordinary service during the emergency.

According to Shehbaz, the child’s mother would remember Razia in her prayers for the rest of her life.

Nurse Describes Rescue During Fire

Razia said she was simply performing her duty when the fire broke out.

She explained that she immediately entered the affected area to rescue children. She also instructed another nurse to help move children and mothers from the neonatal ward.

During the chaos, Razia rescued a newborn weighing only 1,050 grams. She handed the child to Dr Abdul Rehman to prevent the baby from becoming separated during the emergency.

Razia then returned inside to rescue another child.

However, a blast suddenly filled the area with smoke and darkness. Despite the danger, she continued trying to save patients.

She later expressed regret that she could not rescue more children.

Government Vows Action Over PIMS Fire

The prime minister also pledged action against those responsible for the PIMS fire.

Shehbaz said the government would make every effort to determine responsibility for the incident and take appropriate action.

Meanwhile, Razia said she hoped other nurses would follow her example and continue serving patients with dedication.

The recognition comes as authorities continue to focus on healthcare infrastructure, emergency preparedness and accountability following the PIMS tragedy.
