Misha Japanwala has earned international recognition after contributing to Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Odyssey, creating two sculptural pieces worn by Academy Award-winning actor Lupita Nyong’o in her role as Helen of Troy.
The Pakistani artist announced the collaboration on Instagram, sharing behind-the-scenes images of the sculpting process alongside a feature published by W Magazine. She described the opportunity as “the honour of a lifetime.”
“The Odyssey — The honour of a lifetime to contribute to Christopher Nolan’s vision and work with the legendary Ellen Mirojnick and Sara O’Donnell to create these two very special sculptural works that adorn Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy,” Japanwala wrote.
She also thanked Nyong’o for supporting her work and expressed gratitude to the film’s costume designers for trusting her artistic vision.

“Thank you Lupita for championing my work, and to the costume designers for trusting me to bring these pieces to life. A dream come true to be a tiny part of this monumental film and cinematic history,” she added.
According to W Magazine, the creative team wanted Helen of Troy to appear mysterious and almost otherworldly while remaining grounded in the film’s realistic visual style. Costume designer Ellen Mirojnick said the team carefully developed the character’s appearance to reflect the realism expected of a queen.
The magazine reported that Lupita Nyong’o recommended her friend Misha Japanwala, whose sculptural body casts celebrate diverse body shapes and artistic expression.
In addition to the sculptural pieces, Japanwala designed a bespoke gold choker for Helen’s final costume. The accessory accompanied a chainmail-inspired caftan gown worn during one of the character’s concluding scenes, creating one of the film’s most distinctive looks.
This is not the first time Japanwala has received international acclaim. In 2022, Vogue India featured her bridal design inspired by her signature sculptural breastplate aesthetic.
She also gained global attention in 2021 after designing a custom gold breastplate and arm cuff for Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B, who wore the pieces in the music video for Rumors, her collaboration with Lizzo.
Japanwala’s latest collaboration with one of Hollywood’s most celebrated filmmakers marks another milestone in her international career and highlights Pakistan’s growing influence in contemporary fashion and artistic design.
