Sindh Home Minister Zia Ul Hasan Lanjar on Thursday tendered an unconditional apology before the Judicial Commission investigating the Mir Raza Ali murder case.

The apology came after commission chairman Justice Umar Sial expressed serious concerns about an earlier intervention by a government lawyer during the proceedings.

The commission had summoned the home minister during its previous hearing. It had also reprimanded Sindh Advocate General Jawad Dero for interrupting the proceedings and objecting when the victim’s family lawyer, Jibran Nasir, questioned a key witness.

Justice Sial Raises Concerns Over Intervention

Justice Sial said the intervention was inappropriate and left him feeling “very humiliated”.

He said maintaining the victim family’s confidence in the commission remained a major challenge. He also recalled telling the family and others that he would not meet any government representative.

“We were told that the commission would work transparently,” Justice Sial said.

The judge said the reputation of the Sindh government was also at stake. He noted that the chief justice had appointed him as commission chairman after a request from the provincial government.

“The intervention of the advocate general that day was not right at all. I felt very humiliated,” Justice Sial remarked.

He said the commission had a clear mandate to conduct a transparent investigation. Lanjar’s appearance, he added, aimed to establish whether the provincial government remained committed to that objective.

Lanjar Assures Full Government Support

Lanjar apologised to the commission and assured the panel of the Sindh government’s full cooperation.

“I apologise to all of you unconditionally,” he said.

The home minister said the government was responsible for ensuring security and justice for the people of Sindh. He also expressed confidence in Justice Sial and pledged to provide all assistance and evidence required by the commission.

“We do not want to interfere in the commission’s proceedings,” Lanjar said. He added that the panel should conduct the inquiry in whatever manner it considered appropriate.

The minister said police were responsible for taking the case to its logical conclusion. He also assured the commission that the provincial government would accept its findings and decisions.

Justice Sial thanked Lanjar for the assurances. He said the commission did not want anyone to believe that the Sindh government opposed the investigation.

Commission Summons Officials

The commission resumed proceedings after a short recess.

It considered a response submitted by Dr Usama to a show-cause notice. Justice Sial expressed dissatisfaction with the response.

The commission then summoned Dr Usama to appear in person at the next hearing.

It also announced that Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed Tariq would appear before the panel to record her statement.

The proceedings remain focused on ensuring a transparent investigation into the Mir Raza Ali murder case, with the commission seeking cooperation from government and police officials.
