TEHRAN: Iran has warned Bahrain and other regional countries against allowing their territory, military bases or airspace to be used for attacks on Iran, saying Tehran would respond if such support is provided again.
Ali Karimi Magham, Second Secretary of Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, issued the warning during a session of the UN Third Committee on Monday, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.
Karimi Magham was responding to comments by Bahrain’s representative. He accused Manama of discussing human rights while overlooking the circumstances surrounding the conflict.
The Iranian diplomat said Bahrain had allowed its territory, military facilities and airspace to support what Tehran described as an unlawful US war against Iran.
He argued that a country providing such facilities could not be surprised by the consequences. Karimi Magham also said Iran did not initiate the conflict and described its military response as an exercise of what Tehran considers its inherent right to self-defence.
He warned that Iran would respond if another regional country again allowed its territory to be used to launch attacks against Iran.
The warning came as US President Donald Trump faced criticism over remarks about the potential impact of the Iran conflict on American cities.
Speaking at a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, Trump discussed rising prices linked to the war. He said Americans might have to accept higher costs as part of maintaining national and global security.
Trump then referred to a hypothetical Iranian attack on a US city and said Iran could “take out” Los Angeles or San Diego.
He also said the conflict was “essentially almost over with” while acknowledging that it could continue longer.
Trump said Iranian leaders had described themselves as having a high “threshold for pain” and predicted the conflict would eventually end.
California Governor Gavin Newsom criticised the remarks. He accused Trump of being “deranged and dangerous” in a post on X and objected to comments about possible attacks on Los Angeles and San Diego.

Meanwhile, the US Treasury Department warned foreign financial institutions that continue conducting business with Iran or its financial sector that they could face sanctions without advance notice.
The Treasury said institutions dealing with sanctioned Iranian financial entities could be targeted and urged them to end such transactions and relationships.
Foreign banks and financial institutions that help sanctioned Iranian banks access international financial services could also face restrictions, including limits on their access to US correspondent and payable-through accounts.
Washington has maintained extensive sanctions against Iran and has continued efforts to restrict Tehran’s access to the international financial system.
The latest warning adds financial pressure to the wider confrontation between Washington and Tehran, as regional countries face growing pressure over their role in the conflict.
