Dr Uzma Khan, sister of incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan, has filed a second contempt of court petition before the Supreme Court.

The petition alleges noncompliance with the apex court’s August 18 order. That order allowed Imran Khan to communicate digitally with his sons and meet his sisters every week.

According to the petition, Imran was denied a meeting with his sisters on September 1. It also claims that he has been unable to communicate with his sons since March.

Petition Seeks Implementation of Supreme Court Order

Dr Uzma filed the petition through Supreme Court Advocate Uzair Karamat Bhandari. The application was submitted under Articles 187 and 204 of the Constitution.

The petition names Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and four other officials as respondents. It seeks contempt proceedings over the alleged failure to implement the Supreme Court’s directives.

Furthermore, the application asks the court to ensure full compliance with its August 18 order.

Prime Minister’s Office Named in Petition

The petition argues that responsibility for implementing a court order rests with the chief executive. It therefore points to the Prime Minister’s Office as responsible for ensuring compliance.

The application also refers to the Supreme Court’s judgment in the Yousuf Raza Gilani contempt case. Dr Uzma has asked the court to apply the same principle to the current matter.

Accordingly, the petition seeks judicial intervention to ensure that the August 18 directions are implemented.

Officials Named as Respondents

In addition to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the petition names several senior officials.

The respondents include Rawalpindi Central Jail (Adiala) Superintendent Sajid Baig, Punjab Inspector General of Prisons Mian Salik Jalal, Ministry of Interior Secretary Ahmed Sarwar Raza, and Islamabad Capital Territory Chief Commissioner Sohail Ashraf.

The petition alleges that these authorities failed to facilitate the meetings and communication arrangements directed by the Supreme Court.

Sisters Allegedly Denied Meeting

According to the application, Imran Khan’s sisters were allegedly prevented from meeting him despite the Supreme Court’s directions.

The petition names Dr Uzma Khan, Noreen Niazi and Aleema Khan among the family members affected. It also alleges that Imran’s cousin Qasim Zaman was barred from meeting him.

Meanwhile, the application claims that no arrangements have been made for regular telephone communication with Imran’s sons.

Petition Raises Issue of Contact With Sons

The Supreme Court’s August 18 order directed arrangements for telephone conversations between Imran Khan and his sons, Kasim Khan and Sulaiman Khan, twice a week.

However, the petition alleges that the required arrangements have not been made. As a result, Imran has reportedly remained unable to speak with his sons through the prescribed communication channel.

The latest application now asks the Supreme Court to initiate contempt proceedings and enforce its earlier directions.
