A Defence Day event in Karachi paid tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces and national heroes on Sunday, while speakers urged young people to play an active role in the country’s future.

The Sindh government’s Department of Sports and Youth Affairs organised the event at Iqra University. The programme marked September 6 and commemorated the 1965 war between Pakistan and India.

Speakers recalled the events of the conflict and highlighted the role of Pakistan’s armed forces. They also remembered those who lost their lives while defending the country.

Retired Officers Discuss 1965 War

A panel discussion brought together several retired military officers.

The panel included Vice Admiral Shah Sohail Masood, Air Vice Marshal Usaid-ur-Rehman Usmani, Brigadier Syed Karrar Hussain Shah, Colonel Mukhtar Butt, Squadron Leader Nafees Ahmed Rabbani and Commander Dr Muhammad Tahir.

The panellists discussed the historical context of the 1965 war. They also spoke about the contribution of the armed forces during the conflict.

The officers encouraged students to understand Pakistan’s history and take a constructive role in the country’s future.

Iram Tanveer Pays Tribute to Fallen Heroes

Director General of the Press Information Department Iram Tanveer attended the event as the guest of honour.

She paid tribute to the people who lost their lives while defending Pakistan.

Munawar Ali Mahesar, Sindh Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs, also addressed the gathering.

He said Defence Day represents more than the remembrance of a historical event. According to Mahesar, the occasion highlights national unity, sacrifice, determination and patriotism.

He urged young people to support national development through education and skills. He also encouraged students to demonstrate responsible conduct in society.

Youth Urged to Learn From History

Additional Secretary Dr Asad Ishaq also spoke at the event.

Syed Habibullah, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Youth Affairs Sindh, highlighted the role of national commemorations in educating younger generations.

He said such events help students understand Pakistan’s history. They also provide an opportunity to learn about the sacrifices linked to the country’s creation and defence.

The speakers encouraged students to become responsible and active citizens. They stressed the importance of education, skills and constructive participation in national development.

Students Receive Certificates

The organisers concluded the event by presenting certificates to participating students.

They also gave commemorative shields to speakers and other participants.

The organisers said the programme aimed to strengthen young people’s understanding of Pakistan’s national history. They added that it also sought to encourage students to contribute positively to the country’s future.
