The Cappadocia Balloon Festival will return from July 30 to August 2, bringing dozens of uniquely shaped hot air balloons from around the world to the skies above Türkiye’s famous Cappadocia region.

Organised by Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the four-day festival will showcase 30 special-shaped balloons from 10 countries alongside the region’s 156 commercial hot air balloons, which operate daily.

Balloons from 10 Countries to Participate

The festival will welcome balloons from Türkiye, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil, Slovakia, Austria and Poland.

Visitors will see balloons designed in the shapes of the Turkish flag, an octopus, an owl, a clown, a chick, a wolf, a duck, a parrot, a rocket, a heart and the Earth.

The balloons will take flight at sunrise over Cappadocia’s valleys before returning in the evening for illuminated balloon glow displays at the Pasabag Open-Air Museum.

Festival Highlights Cappadocia’s Unique Landscape

Festival coordinator Mehmet Halis Aydogan said demand for the event continues to grow, particularly from Europe, but organisers have limited participation because of the region’s already busy airspace.

He said Cappadocia stands out from other balloon festivals because visitors can watch hundreds of balloons flying daily over its iconic fairy chimneys and valleys.

Aydogan added that international pilots and support crews have already begun arriving in Türkiye as final preparations continue.

Student’s Winning Balloon Design to Make First Flight

This year’s festival will also feature the maiden flight of a whale-shaped hot air balloon designed by sixth-grade student Bengi Serra Kaya, who won the “My Dream Balloon Design Competition.”

The specially manufactured balloon will make its inaugural flight during the festival, highlighting organisers’ efforts to encourage children’s creativity and participation.
