LAHORE: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has called for measures to boost Pakistan’s poultry exports, noting that the country ranks 11th globally in poultry production but earns less than $4 million annually from poultry exports.
Addressing the International Poultry Expo in Lahore, Aurangzeb said the sector had significant potential to expand its presence in international markets. He added that exhibitions help connect businesses with investors and create opportunities for growth.
The minister said the government was working to resolve challenges facing the poultry industry and help businesses make better use of the sector’s production capacity.
Aurangzeb said Pakistan’s poultry industry supports around 1.5 million families. The sector produces approximately 2.5 billion kilogrammes of meat and 28 million eggs annually.
Despite this output, Pakistan’s poultry exports remain below $4 million, while the global poultry market is worth an estimated $45 billion.
He also noted that poultry accounts for a limited share of meat exports across Central and South Asia. He called for greater efforts to improve Pakistan’s access to international markets.

The finance minister said expanding the poultry industry could support economic growth and create new export opportunities. He stressed the need for stronger business connections, greater investment and measures to address industry concerns.
Aurangzeb expressed hope that these efforts would help Pakistan capture a larger share of the global poultry market.
The minister also called for immediate action to prevent sales tax evasion across the country.
He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was monitoring efforts to curb the practice. Aurangzeb stressed the importance of addressing tax evasion as part of the government’s broader economic measures.
