PESHAWAR, September 22, 2026: Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir has reaffirmed the armed forces’ commitment to combating terrorism and maintaining peace and stability in Pakistan.
Munir made the remarks during a visit to Corps Headquarters Peshawar on Tuesday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The military chief received a briefing on the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, ongoing counterterrorism operations and border management measures.
Officials also briefed him on the operational preparedness of formations deployed across the province.
“Armed forces, with the unwavering support of the nation, remain resolute in their determination to defeat terrorism and ensure lasting peace and stability across the country,” Munir said, according to ISPR.
The field marshal commended the morale, readiness and professionalism of officers and troops.
He also acknowledged their efforts to protect the country and its people.
Munir directed formations to remain vigilant and maintain the highest standards of operational preparedness, ISPR said.
The visit comes as security forces continue counterterrorism operations in KP following several recent attacks.
During the visit, Munir also went to Yadgar-e-Shuhada at Corps Headquarters Peshawar.
He laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha for soldiers who died while performing their duties.
The army chief paid tribute to those who lost their lives in defence of the country and during counterterrorism operations.
ISPR said Munir reaffirmed that the sacrifices of the fallen soldiers would not be forgotten.
The Peshawar Corps commander received Munir upon his arrival at the headquarters.

The visit follows a series of deadly incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On September 19, a deadly attack at a mosque in Kohat’s old Police Lines resulted in 23 deaths, including police personnel and civilians, according to police and Counter-Terrorism Department officials. Eight attackers were later killed during a clearance operation.
Two days later, six security personnel, including two officers, were killed in an exchange of fire with militants in Hangu, according to ISPR. The military said eight militants were also killed in the operation.
The developments have intensified security concerns across the province.
On Monday, Pakistan announced what the government described as “calibrated” air strikes against militant camps and hideouts in the border region with Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said the strikes destroyed three targets and killed 28 militants, including several suicide bombers. It also reported nine militant deaths in intelligence-based ground operations in Kohat and Hangu.
Those figures are official Pakistani government claims and have not been independently verified.
The latest developments have added to tensions along Pakistan’s western border as authorities continue counterterrorism operations in KP.
Munir’s Peshawar visit comes against this backdrop, with the military leadership reviewing operational preparedness and security measures across the province.
