Anthropic Renames Claude Max Plans, Removes Five-Hour Limit for Verified Ultra Users

Anthropic has renamed its two highest Claude subscription plans and removed the five-hour usage limit for verified Ultra accounts.

The company announced the changes on October 30. The former Max 5x plan is now called Max, while Max 20x has become Ultra.

The prices remain unchanged. Max costs $100 per month, while Ultra costs $200 per month. Existing subscribers do not need to take any action because Anthropic will update their plan names automatically.

The biggest change affects Ultra subscribers. Previously, Claude plans used a rolling five-hour usage window. Subscribers who reached their limit had to wait for the session allowance to reset.

Verified Ultra accounts no longer face that five-hour restriction. Anthropic said it had started rolling out the change to most existing subscribers. However, newer accounts will retain a temporary limit until the company verifies them.

Weekly Usage Limits Still Apply

Anthropic has not increased Ultra’s overall weekly allowance. The plan continues to offer 10 times the weekly usage available with Pro.

The company also maintains a separate weekly usage limit for its Fable model. Ultra subscribers can use Fable for up to half of their weekly allowance, according to the plan details.

This means Ultra does not offer unlimited usage. Subscribers can work without the five-hour session cutoff once Anthropic verifies their accounts, but they must still manage their weekly allowance.

Users who exhaust that allowance before the weekly reset must wait for the next cycle.

How Anthropic Verifies Ultra Accounts

Ultra subscribers do not need to complete a separate verification form. Anthropic automatically reviews account and payment history to verify eligible accounts and prevent fraud.

Newer accounts may face a temporary five-hour limit until the process finishes. Anthropic says it will email users when it removes that restriction.

Users can check their verification status through Settings > Usage. If the page no longer displays a “Current session” bar, Anthropic has verified the account.

The company also clarifies that verifying a phone number during checkout does not remove the temporary usage limit.

What Pro, Max and Ultra Include

Claude Pro costs $20 per month and remains an option for users who do not need the higher usage allowances. The plan includes access to Opus 5.5 without an additional model charge.

However, Pro does not include Fable in its subscription allowance. Pro users must purchase usage credits to access that model.

Max and Ultra include Fable access for up to half of their respective weekly usage limits. Both plans also include monthly credits for Anthropic’s API platform.

Max provides $100 in monthly API credits, while Ultra provides $200.

Ultra is available only through a monthly subscription. Its $200 price applies to web subscriptions, while prices through mobile apps may differ.

Anthropic’s changes give verified Ultra subscribers longer uninterrupted sessions without increasing the plan’s weekly usage allowance.
