Private Investment, Modern Technology Vital to Tackling Climate Change Nasir Hussain Shah

Sindh Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah has stressed the need for private investment, modern technology and effective strategies to address climate change and strengthen Pakistan’s economic and environmental resilience.

He said climate change posed a serious challenge to Pakistan’s economy, agriculture, urban communities, infrastructure and public well-being. Tackling these challenges requires coordinated government action, private-sector investment and practical, financially viable projects.

Nasir Hussain Shah expressed these views while addressing the Investor Roadshow 2026, organised under the Climate Finance Accelerator. The British Deputy High Commissioner, Chairman of Planning and Development Najam Ahmed Shah, and representatives of various companies also addressed the event.

Sindh Offers Investment Opportunities in Climate Projects

The provincial minister said Sindh had significant investment potential in clean energy, water management, waste disposal, agriculture and infrastructure.

He noted that effective planning and targeted investment could help turn these opportunities into a greener economy better equipped to withstand climate-related risks.

Nasir Hussain Shah said the Sindh government was actively working to address the effects of climate change. However, he emphasised that the government could not tackle the challenge alone, particularly because public resources were limited.

He added that attracting private investment required clear strategies, sound decision-making and sustained efforts to develop viable projects.

Climate Change Poses Economic Risks

The minister stressed that climate change was not merely an environmental concern for Pakistan. It was also causing significant economic damage, with consequences for agricultural production, urban areas, infrastructure and people’s lives.

He said modern technology, innovative ideas and increased investment were essential to building a greener and more resilient economy.

The minister also highlighted the contribution of companies operating in Pakistan to the development of the country’s climate-focused economy. He said Sindh’s climate-related vulnerabilities made it increasingly important to invest in sustainable solutions across key sectors.

Public-Private Cooperation Key to Climate Finance

Nasir Hussain Shah called for urgent efforts to convert climate initiatives into practical projects that could attract investment.

He emphasised stronger cooperation between the public and private sectors to mobilise funding, support sustainable development and improve the province’s ability to withstand climate-related challenges.

The roadshow highlighted the importance of investment, technology and collaboration in advancing climate-focused projects and supporting Pakistan’s transition towards a more sustainable economy.
