Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has vowed that no one will escape accountability for criminal activities, regardless of wealth or influence. She said the provincial government would end political recommendations and preferential treatment.
Addressing a ceremony at the University of Rasul in Mandi Bahauddin, Maryam distributed laptops and Honhaar Scholarship cheques among students. She said authorities would take legal action against anyone who misused their power or wealth to harm ordinary citizens.
The chief minister issued a stern warning to those involved in violence against women and children. She urged offenders to abandon criminal activities or face legal consequences.
Maryam also said she intended to meet the chief justice of the Lahore High Court to discuss cases in which accused individuals secured bail soon after their arrests.
She referred to an alleged assault at a petrol pump, where the suspect reportedly obtained bail the following day. However, details of the case and the court proceedings were not provided in the statement.

The chief minister said accountability would also extend to members of her own political party. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting victims of injustice.
Speaking about education initiatives, Maryam said the government was distributing laptops and Honhaar Scholarships strictly on merit, without favouritism or political interference.
She said students would continue to benefit from government programmes involving laptops, electric buses, Chromebooks and scholarships. These initiatives, she added, aimed to support students’ education and future development.
Maryam also expressed concern over incidents involving violence against women and children. She specifically referred to the death of an orphan child in a car-related incident in Multan, describing such cases as deeply troubling.
Addressing students, the chief minister said she wanted to provide them with every possible opportunity to succeed. In return, she called on them to remain committed to Pakistan.
During the visit, Maryam distributed scholarship cheques and laptops among college and university students. She received a warm welcome in Mandi Bahauddin, where residents showered her vehicle with flower petals as she arrived.
