UN Commission Says Israel Continued Genocidal Acts in Gaza After Ceasefire

A United Nations commission has said Israel continued committing acts of genocide in Gaza after a US-brokered ceasefire took effect last October. Israel rejected the findings, describing the report as part of a “misinformation campaign”.

The report, published on Monday by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel, examined alleged violations against Palestinian children from the start of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7, 2023, through September 2026.

The commission said Israeli authorities had continued committing “genocidal acts with the genocidal intent to destroy, in whole or in part, the Palestinians in Gaza”. It also reported a further deterioration in conditions across the occupied West Bank.

In a report published in September 2025, the commission had already concluded that Israel committed genocide in Gaza. It also accused senior Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, of inciting such acts. Israel rejected those allegations at the time.

Israel Rejects UN Commission’s Findings

Israel’s mission in Geneva dismissed the latest report as an effort to Demonise the country.

“The attempt to destroy the Jewish state … continues today through efforts by actors such as the UN Commission of Inquiry to undermine Israel’s legitimacy and deny its fundamental right to exist and defend itself,” Ambassador Daniel Meron said in a statement.

Heavy Weapons Used in Populated Areas

The commission said Israeli forces continued using heavy munitions, drones, quadcopters, artillery and sniper fire in densely populated areas of Gaza during the ceasefire.

It also raised concerns about the “Yellow Line”, which was presented as a temporary ceasefire demarcation. According to the report, the line had increasingly encroached into Gaza and was becoming a de facto border.

The commission said this development reflected an expansion of Israeli territorial control over the enclave.

Palestinian authorities say more than 74,000 people have been killed in Israel’s assault on Gaza. The offensive began after Hamas-led fighters killed about 1,200 people in southern Israel on October 7, 2023.

UN Reports Rising Palestinian Deaths in West Bank

The commission also reported a sharp deterioration in the occupied West Bank.

According to the report, six Palestinians were killed in airstrikes between 2008 and October 6, 2023. The number rose to 254 between October 7, 2023, and September 30, 2026.

Commission Chair Srinivasan Muralidhar said the intentional killing of Palestinian civilians and the destruction of homes in the West Bank formed part of a broader strategy to exterminate and displace Palestinians.

The report added that military operations since January 2025 had caused the largest displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank since 1967.

It said 34,176 Palestinians remained displaced as of August 2026.

Commission Also Criticises Palestinian Authority

The report also Criticised the Palestinian Authority, accusing it of targeting Palestinians who expressed dissenting views.

It further said journalists and human rights defenders had been killed or injured.

The commission’s findings cover alleged violations in both Gaza and the occupied West Bank. Israel has rejected the latest report’s conclusions, while the commission maintains that its findings reflect continuing violations against Palestinians.
