IEA Says 325 Million Barrels Released Amid Energy Crisis

The International Energy Agency said on Saturday that member countries had released about 325 million barrels of oil and oil products from strategic reserves.

The figure represents more than 80% of the 400 million barrels pledged in March.

The update came a day after G7 countries agreed with the IEA to release another 100 million barrels of crude oil and diesel.

G7 Moves to Ease Supply Concerns

The G7 said the new release would take place over the next four months.

The plan includes a large diesel release within the first 20 days.

The group did not clarify whether the 100 million barrels include the 75 million barrels still outstanding from the March commitment.

It also did not say whether the new release would come on top of the earlier pledge.

The G7 countries include Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States.

Diesel Supplies Under Pressure

The US administration has urged allies to release diesel reserves.

The move aims to ease rising fuel prices in the United States and other markets.

The war in the Middle East has disrupted energy supplies. Iran has restricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz following US and Israeli attacks.

The conflict has also affected oil markets through disruptions to regional trade.

Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries have added further pressure to global supplies.

IEA March Commitment

The IEA said its 32 member countries had released more than 80% of the 400 million barrels promised on March 11.

The March commitment involved all G7 members.

The latest G7 decision aims to provide additional supplies as concerns over energy shortages continue.

The group also agreed not to restrict diesel exports between member countries.

The decision removed a potential threat from Washington to impose such restrictions.

US President Donald Trump later said the proposed export ban would not be introduced.

Trump Promises to Refill US Reserves

Trump said on Friday that the United States would soon replenish its strategic petroleum reserves.

“We’re going to be filling up very shortly our strategic reserves, for nothing,” Trump said at a rally in Mobile, Alabama.

He did not provide further details about how the United States would carry out the plan.
