ISLAMABAD, September 23, 2026: PAEC Foundation has signed a contract for the construction of its fifth hydropower project at Chashma.
The Foundation Hydel Power Plant Unit-05 (FHPP-05) will have an installed capacity of 5MW.
The project will be constructed at the outfall of the Chashma-5 Nuclear Power Plant.
Once operational, the plant is expected to generate around 30.66 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually.
The electricity will be supplied to the national grid.
The project will use the available hydropower potential at the site.
PAEC Foundation said the plant will help utilise water resources more efficiently.
It will also add renewable electricity to Pakistan’s energy mix.
Electricity generation is expected to begin by September 2029.
The project will add another source of clean power while supporting the country’s efforts to expand sustainable electricity generation.

According to PAEC, its six nuclear power plants currently provide 3,530MW of electricity to the national grid.
The nuclear plants generate clean, sustainable and low-cost electricity, according to the commission.
FHPP-05 will add a further 5MW of hydropower capacity.
The project will also expand PAEC Foundation’s renewable energy portfolio while supporting additional clean electricity generation for the national grid.
