The government has formally approved the import of 750,000 metric tonnes of wheat to strengthen domestic supplies.

The Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has issued an international tender for the purchase.

The wheat will arrive on a cost and freight (CFR) basis. Suppliers can ship the wheat in bulk through Karachi and/or Gwadar ports.

The tender requires suppliers to provide wheat from the latest 2026 crop.

TCP Sets Minimum Wheat Import Quantity

The TCP said international suppliers must submit offers for at least 50,000 tonnes.

The corporation will not accept bids below 50,000 tonnes. The tender allows a ±10% MOLSO quantity variation.

The imported wheat must meet the standards set out in the tender document and the Import Policy Order.

Suppliers must also deliver the full contracted quantity according to the shipment schedule.

Wheat Bids Open on September 16

Suppliers can submit their bids until 11:30am on September 16, 2026.

The TCP will open the technical bids at noon on the same day.

The opening will take place at the TCP Board Room. Bidders or their authorised representatives can attend in person or through Zoom.

The tender requires separate sealed envelopes for technical and financial bids.

Suppliers must submit the bids at the TCP reception counter. The location is the Finance & Trade Centre on Shahrahe-Faisal in Karachi.

The tender document also outlines bid security, validity requirements and evaluation criteria.

It includes procedures for bid clarification and rejection. The document also sets out requirements for performance guarantees.

Sindh to Receive Largest Wheat Allocation

The TCP will distribute the imported wheat among provinces according to their demand and requirements.

Sindh will receive 300,000 tonnes of the imported wheat.

Punjab will receive 250,000 tonnes.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will receive the remaining 200,000 tonnes.

The allocation aims to support wheat availability across the three provinces.

Pakistan’s Wheat Supply Faces Pressure

Pakistan consumes around 31.3 million tonnes of wheat each year.

According to the Economic Survey 2025-26, the country produced 29.61 million tonnes of wheat.

The gap between domestic production and annual consumption highlights the need for careful supply management.

Experts said the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) held around 1.783 million tonnes of wheat in its stocks by the first week of July.

The new import plan will add to available supplies as the government manages domestic wheat requirements.
