ISLAMABAD, September 8, 2026: The Government of Saudi Arabia has provided a Rs150 million development grant to the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) to modernise its academic infrastructure.

The grant coincides with celebrations marking Saudi National Day. It will support IIUI’s efforts to improve teaching facilities, technology and student learning environments.

The first phase will focus on classrooms, computer laboratories, information technology systems and other academic facilities across the university.

Saudi Grant to Fund Smart Classrooms

A key part of the project is the establishment of a smart classroom in each faculty.

Each classroom will feature an interactive smart board, digital podium and dedicated Wi-Fi connectivity. The classrooms will have capacity for up to 30 students.

The project will also establish five computer laboratories. These facilities will provide 55 workstations and a total of 220 computer systems.

The systems will include desktop computers, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) systems and laptops.

The laboratories will also receive CCTV systems, furniture, curtains and other essential equipment. Interior improvements will form part of the planned upgrades.

IIUI Aims to Improve Digital Learning

The university said the grant will strengthen the teaching and learning environment at IIUI.

Students and faculty members will gain greater access to modern digital resources. The upgraded laboratories will also support technology-based teaching and research.

IIUI expects the improvements to strengthen its academic profile. The university also believes modern facilities could make it more attractive to prospective students.

The project forms part of a wider infrastructure improvement drive at the university.

President Highlights Student Welfare

The initiative follows efforts led by Acting Rector and President of IIUI, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed.

Over the past year, he has focused on student welfare and improvements to university facilities. Regular visits to hostels and academic areas have helped identify infrastructure challenges.

The president has also engaged directly with students to understand their concerns. The university said this approach has helped prioritise practical improvements.

Phased renovation of student hostels is already underway. The planned classroom and computer laboratory upgrades add another major element to the improvement programme.

IIUI expressed gratitude to the Government of Saudi Arabia for the Rs150 million grant.

The university described the support as another example of Saudi Arabia’s longstanding commitment to IIUI. It also highlighted the close relationship between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

IIUI said the upgraded facilities will provide students with learning environments aligned with modern global education trends.
