A major fire broke out at an old clothes factory in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone (EPZ), leaving three people critically injured, according to officials.
Two men and a woman suffered from severe smoke inhalation during the incident. Rescue teams shifted the injured woman to Jinnah Hospital in a Chhipa ambulance, according to sources.
Fire brigade officials classified the blaze as a third-degree fire. They called for additional firefighting resources as the flames spread through the building.
The fire initially started on the ground floor of the factory. It later spread to the building’s two upper floors, according to fire brigade officials.
The intense smoke made the operation more difficult. Firefighters therefore continued much of the firefighting effort from outside the building.

At least 11 Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) fire tenders, two water tankers and a snorkel were deployed at the scene. Authorities also requested additional fire tenders to help contain the blaze.
A security guard said factory workers evacuated the building after smoke began emerging.
SSP Malir said no deaths had been reported at the time of the latest update. He added that workers escaped before the fire spread to other parts of the building.
Officials said the affected factory contained a large stock of old clothes.
The material inside the building contributed to the intensity of the fire and smoke, according to fire brigade officials.
EPZ security authorities also took precautionary measures. They stopped employees from other companies in the area from entering the affected premises.
The SSP Malir said firefighters were not facing any major challenge other than controlling the blaze.
Sindh Rangers personnel also reached the factory after authorities assessed the seriousness of the incident.
According to the Rangers spokesperson, Rangers teams assisted firefighters and rescue workers with firefighting, relief and rescue operations.
A heavy Rangers contingent was deployed around the building. The deployment aimed to maintain traffic flow and protect people in the surrounding area.
The spokesperson said protecting human lives and preventing the fire from spreading remained the main priorities.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the fire.
He directed the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of people at the factory and use all available resources to control the blaze.
The chief minister also sought a situation report from the Karachi commissioner and the concerned administration.
Authorities continued firefighting and rescue operations as efforts focused on bringing the fire under control and preventing further spread.
