The Sindh government will distribute Pink Electric Scooties in Mirpurkhas during the next phase of its women’s mobility programme. More than 50,000 women have already applied for the scheme, reflecting strong demand across the province.

Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon said the government had also trained more than 2,000 women in driving and road safety. The training continues in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad.

The programme aims to help women travel safely and independently. It also seeks to improve their access to education, employment and other economic and social opportunities.

Mirpurkhas added to distribution plan

The Sindh government has gradually expanded the programme beyond Karachi. Officials now plan to include Mirpurkhas in the next distribution phase.

Sharjeel said the government allocated 925 scooties during the first phase and another 476 during the second phase. So far, officials have distributed more than 810 scooties free of cost.

Women in several cities have already benefited from the initiative. Karachi received 410 scooties, while Sukkur and Hyderabad each received 200.

Training programme expands across Sindh

Alongside the distribution programme, the government continues to provide driving and related training.

More than 2,000 women have completed the training so far. Meanwhile, training sessions continue in five cities across Sindh.

Officials want more women to learn how to ride safely before receiving the vehicles. This approach aims to improve road safety while helping beneficiaries use the scooties confidently.

Programme focuses on women’s independence

Sharjeel said the main goal of the Pink Electric Scooty Programme is to empower women.

The initiative seeks to give women greater freedom of movement and improve their confidence. It can also help them reach workplaces, educational institutions and other destinations more easily.

Furthermore, the government sees affordable and safe transport as an important part of expanding women’s participation in economic and social activities.

Sindh plans wider expansion

The provincial government says it will continue expanding the programme to other parts of Sindh.

The latest decision to include Mirpurkhas marks another step in that expansion. With thousands of applications already submitted, demand remains high.

Sharjeel said the government would continue taking practical measures to provide women with safe and dignified transport. The programme is intended to support greater independence while creating better opportunities for women across the province.
