Karachi has launched the Town Premier League to promote grassroots cricket and create more sporting opportunities for young people across the city.
Sindh Local Government Minister and TPL Patron-in-Chief Nasir Hussain Shah attended the opening ceremony as chief guest.
The tournament will feature 26 teams. Twenty-five teams will represent Karachi’s towns, while another team will represent the Mayor of Karachi.
Organisers also unveiled the league’s official anthem and team jerseys during the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Nasir Hussain Shah welcomed the launch and called it the start of a new chapter for Karachi cricket.
He congratulated the TPL team for bringing all 25 towns together through sport.
The minister also asked all town administrations to cooperate fully with the league organisers.

Shah said the tournament would give Karachi’s youth a stronger sense of inclusion.
It will also create opportunities for local cricket talent to compete at the grassroots level.
Furthermore, the league aims to promote healthy competition, sportsmanship and community participation.
Shah said the Sindh Local Government Department had approved and supported the TPL.
He added that the league would give young people positive and constructive opportunities through sport.
The minister stressed that the initiative has no political purpose.
Instead, the league focuses on sports, youth, unity and community participation.
He said teams from all 25 towns would work with the organisers throughout the tournament.
The minister said the tournament would give young players a chance to represent their respective towns.
Local representation could also help emerging cricketers gain valuable competitive experience.
The organisers aim to use tape-ball cricket to attract young players from different parts of Karachi.
They also hope the tournament will strengthen links between local communities through sport.
Shah urged town administrations to provide full support and coordination during the league.
The launch marks a fresh effort to expand grassroots cricket in Karachi and provide young people with more opportunities to participate in organised sport.
