ISLAMABAD, August 21, 2026: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan told his sister, Dr Uzma Khan, that he was facing “severe injustice and torture” during detention, while Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi announced plans to approach the courts over the alleged non-implementation of the Supreme Court’s order on his medical treatment.

Dr Uzma made the remarks during a press conference at K-P House in Islamabad after meeting Imran at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

She said Imran complained about his treatment during detention and asked her to inform others about what he described as severe mistreatment.

However, Dr Uzma said Imran appeared to be in good health when she met him. She said doctors checked his blood pressure, which stood at 120/80.

Imran Describes Treatment During Detention

According to Dr Uzma, Imran told her that authorities had treated him unjustly for the past 10 months.

She said he compared his detention conditions with those faced by former Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi. Imran reportedly told her that prolonged solitary confinement and limited human contact had affected his health.

Dr Uzma also said doctors at PIMS asked Imran about the eye drops he had been using before administering an injection to his eye.

After the injection, doctors covered his other eye with a bandage, she said.

She added that Imran later told her that a doctor had linked his hypertension to a lack of human contact.

Sister Details Overnight Visit

Dr Uzma said authorities called her to Adiala Jail at around 8:30pm on Thursday.

She was initially taken to Deputy Superintendent of Police Saqlain’s office before authorities transported her to PIMS in a small vehicle, she said.

“When I went upstairs, Imran was there,” she said, adding that Imran remarked that his sister was meeting him after 10 months.

Dr Uzma said officials moved them between different locations during the process, which she felt caused unnecessary delays.

She said she repeatedly asked whether they would move Imran to Shifa International Hospital but received no clear answer.

Dr Faisal Sultan Waited at Shifa

Imran’s personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, gave a separate account of the night.

He said authorities took him from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital, where he waited for around two and a half to three hours.

As the Fajr prayer approached, officials told him that Imran might not arrive and advised him to leave, Dr Faisal said.

Authorities later took him back to Adiala Jail.

CM Afridi Announces Legal Action

K-P Chief Minister Sohail Afridi criticised the government for taking Imran to PIMS instead of Shifa.

He said PTI would approach the courts through a contempt petition over the alleged failure to follow the Supreme Court’s order.

“If the judiciary itself will not implement its own decision, then how will the system work?” Afridi asked.

He said the matter raised broader questions about respect for judicial orders and the rule of law.

Afridi also urged judges to decide how they would respond to what he described as the government’s disregard for the court’s directive.

Government Says Imran Was Medically Fit

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said authorities took Imran to PIMS because of security concerns around Shifa International Hospital.

He said doctors from Shifa also participated in the examination at PIMS.

A team comprising an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician examined Imran and declared him medically fit, according to Tarar.

Tarar said Imran’s sister remained present during the examination and treatment. Authorities returned Imran to Adiala Jail at around 5am on Friday.

Supreme Court Had Ordered Shifa Transfer

The Supreme Court had ordered on Tuesday that Imran receive treatment at Shifa International Hospital for several days.

The court also directed the government to arrange weekly meetings between Imran and his family.

It ordered authorities to provide access to his personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, and directed the formation of a medical board comprising an eye specialist, general physician and cardiologist.

Dr Uzma was also to participate in the medical board.

The court instructed Imran’s family and lawyers to keep his medical reports confidential. It also barred political activity and media conferences outside the hospital.

The latest dispute centres on whether the government’s decision to conduct Imran’s examination at PIMS complied with the Supreme Court’s directive to shift him to Shifa International Hospital.
