MADRID: Sevilla launched their LaLiga campaign with a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Rayo Vallecano, while Alaves began the new season in emphatic fashion with a 3-0 win over 10-man Getafe on Saturday.
Sevilla fell behind after just four minutes when Alvaro Garcia capitalised on a defensive mistake by Arouna Sangante. The hosts struggled to find a way through during a first half heavily disrupted by VAR reviews.
Sevilla eventually levelled after Garcia brought down Miguel Sierra inside the area early in the second half. Jon Guridi converted the resulting penalty to make it 1-1.
The match appeared destined to finish level after Sevilla’s Kike Salas was sent off late in the game. However, Rayo defender Florian Lejeune conceded a penalty in stoppage time after bringing down substitute Robbie Ure.

Earlier, Alaves defeated Getafe 3-0 after Kiko Femenia was sent off shortly before half-time. The visitors held out for much of the second half, but Alaves eventually broke through when Nahuel Tenaglia headed home in the 73rd minute.
Substitute Mariano Diaz then produced a decisive cameo, scoring in stoppage time before assisting Mikel Rodriguez for the third goal shortly afterwards. Mariano finished the match with one goal and two assists.
The results gave both Sevilla and Alaves winning starts to the 2026-27 LaLiga season, with Sevilla overcoming adversity and Alaves taking full advantage of their numerical superiority.
