GTA 6 Gets Major Netflix Reveal as Rockstar Sets Extended Look Before November Launch

More than a decade after the previous instalment, GTA 6 is heading towards its long-awaited release, and Rockstar Games has teamed up with Netflix to give fans a new look at the highly anticipated game.

Rockstar announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with Netflix that will see Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look premiere exclusively for Netflix subscribers on August 27.

The presentation is expected to provide fresh footage and additional details about the upcoming title, although Rockstar and Netflix have not revealed how long the programme will run.

It also remains unclear how much of the extended presentation will focus on the game’s main storyline and how much will explore the activities and side content that have become central to the Grand Theft Auto experience.

The extended look will premiere at 8pm UK time. Viewers in European time zones can expect the broadcast between 9pm and 10pm, while North American audiences will see it between midday and 3pm depending on their location.

For viewers across Asia and Oceania, the presentation will arrive during the early morning hours, between 3am and 5am.

Fans who do not have Netflix will not have to wait long. Rockstar and Netflix said the extended look will become available on YouTube and the official Grand Theft Auto website six hours after the Netflix premiere.

The collaboration builds on an existing relationship between Netflix and Rockstar Games.

Netflix subscribers previously received access to remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas at no additional cost. Red Dead Redemption is also currently available through Netflix’s games offering.

Netflix’s official Tudum announcement suggested that fans could revisit classic Grand Theft Auto titles while waiting for the new game to arrive in November.

The partnership has fuelled speculation that the classic trilogy could potentially return to Netflix’s games catalogue around the GTA 6 launch, although neither company has confirmed such a move.

Netflix Vice President of Nonfiction Series Brandon Riegg said Grand Theft Auto announcements had become major cultural events in their own right.

He described the anticipation surrounding the new game as unprecedented and said Netflix was honoured to partner with Rockstar for the next stage of the Grand Theft Auto story.

Riegg said the collaboration reflected Netflix’s ambition to become a platform where ambitious storytelling from different forms of entertainment could reach a global audience.

The partnership comes as anticipation for Rockstar’s next open-world blockbuster continues to grow following multiple delays.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19.

The game will return players to the fictional state of Leonida, including a modern version of Vice City, and will introduce protagonists Lucia and Jason as Rockstar expands the series’ familiar crime-driven open-world formula.

With the Netflix presentation arriving just months before launch, Rockstar now has another opportunity to build momentum around one of the most anticipated video game releases in years.
