Qalandia Raid Ends After Israeli Forces Withdraw, Leaving Dozens of Palestinians Injured

JERUSALEM: Qalandia Raid ended late Thursday after Israeli forces withdrew from the Qalandia refugee camp, north of occupied East Jerusalem, following a nearly two-day military operation that Palestinian authorities said left 51 Palestinians injured and dozens detained.

According to the Jerusalem Governorate, Israeli troops ended the operation after carrying out extensive house raids, searches and arrests across the camp. Officials said soldiers also occupied several homes and public buildings, converting them into temporary detention and field interrogation centres during the military operation.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported that the number of injured Palestinians reached 51 by the time the raid concluded.

Dozens Detained During Operation

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said Israeli forces detained or subjected more than 60 Palestinians, including women and children, to field interrogation during the operation.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it launched the raid early Wednesday in Qalandia refugee camp and the nearby town of Kafr Aqab. The army stated that the operation targeted armed individuals, weapons trafficking and what it described as hostile infrastructure.

However, Palestinian officials said residents endured severe humanitarian conditions throughout the operation as military vehicles, bulldozers and drones operated across residential neighbourhoods.

Settlement Expansion Draws Fresh Criticism

Separately, Israeli authorities issued a military order to clear vegetation and uproot olive trees on approximately 2.5 dunums of Palestinian-owned land in the town of Jaba.

According to Palestinian officials, the move aims to expand Route 437, a road serving Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Furthermore, Israeli forces continue to conduct near-daily military operations across the occupied West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, as security tensions remain high.

West Bank Violence Continues

Since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, violence across the occupied West Bank has escalated significantly.

According to official Palestinian figures, Israeli military operations and settler attacks have killed more than 1,180 Palestinians, injured around 13,000 others and resulted in the detention of nearly 24,000 people.

The Israeli government says its operations target armed groups and security threats, while Palestinian authorities and human rights organisations continue to raise concerns over the humanitarian impact of the raids.

The latest developments underscore the continuing instability across the occupied West Bank as regional tensions remain elevated.
