Egypt’s Salman Khalil Claims Pakistan Navy Squash Title After Defeating Nasir Iqbal

KARACHI: Egypt’s Salman Khalil captured the Pakistan Navy Fleet Club Open International Squash Championship after defeating Pakistan’s Nasir Iqbal in straight games in the final at the Pakistan Navy Roshan Khan-Jahangir Khan Squash Complex. The victory secured the Egyptian player the prestigious international title and capped a strong campaign in Karachi.

The championship, organized under the auspices of the Sindh Squash Association, attracted leading players competing for a total prize purse of $41,000. Salman Khalil, seeded third, delivered an impressive performance and won the final 14-12, 11-3, 13-11 to lift the trophy.

Dominant Performance Seals the Title

Salman Khalil started the match with a closely contested opening game before taking control of the contest. He comfortably claimed the second game and held his nerve in the third to complete a straight-games victory over Pakistan’s top player, Nasir Iqbal.

Commander Karachi, Vice Admiral Faisal Amin (Hilal-e-Imtiaz), attended the final as the chief guest. Squash legend Jahangir Khan and former Governor Moinuddin Haider also witnessed the championship match.

Vice Admiral Faisal Amin presented trophies and prizes to the winners and praised the successful organization of the tournament.

Pakistan Navy Reaffirms Support for Squash

Speaking after the final, Vice Admiral Faisal Amin said the Pakistan Navy would continue to support sports and welcomed the successful staging of the PN Fleet Club Open International Squash Championship.

Sindh Squash Association President Adnan Asad said the association plans to organize several more international tournaments with attractive prize money. He urged players to work hard and make the most of upcoming opportunities.

Squash legend Jahangir Khan expressed hope that Pakistani players would qualify for the Los Angeles Olympics and compete for gold medals. He said players must dedicate themselves fully to training and hard work if they want to follow in the footsteps of champions such as himself and Jansher Khan.

The championship highlighted Pakistan’s continued efforts to host international squash events while providing local players with valuable opportunities to compete against top international talent.
